2018 and 2022 in Charlottesville, 2020 at ODU.

A little surprising that they'd sign a 2-for-1 when Wilder has consistently tried to avoid those deals, but it's another ACC school coming to Norfolk.

EDIT TO ADD: Harry says it's a product of the FCOA and the drop in TV revenue, though I'd also be willing to bet that they're hedging their bet on a Foreman replacement being ready in time to do multiple home games, so they agreed to a deal similar to the N.C. State one.

I knew they would eventually sign a home and home deal with Virginia. I hope we are ready for them...

I was trying to get the story out there as quickly as I could; I made a few edits to reflect my thoughts. That said, I think my surprise is more that they're willing to make the 2-for-1 concession for Virginia, which, while a state team and one that generates a lot of buzz in Hampton Roads, is also not exactly a powerhouse. It's nice to get Virginia in, but I'd have been more likely to make the 2-for-1 concession for Virginia Tech, and certainly for more powerful ACC/P5 schools.

Given the relatively new realities of COA and the reduced payout from the CUSA tv contract this was the right move. It looks like we will be playing a $$ game every other year for the foreseeable future. I'm fine with that given the alternatives.
Glad to get the game with UVA, even if it does mess with our 2 for 1 policy. But, we made an exception for Virginia Tech (before it became a long term H-H), and I guess politically UVA didn't want to be perceived as lesser than VT in that case. Oh well. I wonder what our schedules will look like now with them on it!

2018:
Sept. 8, Virginia Military Institute
Sept. 22, Virginia Tech
Sept. 29, at East Carolina
Nov. 17, at Virginia

Oh wow, 2 P5 schools and a great G5 school. This is gonna be one of our most difficult OOC's we've ever had I think. Crazy we get to play so many great local teams though.

2020:
Sept. 12, at Buffalo
Sept. 19, Wake Forest
Sept. 26, at North Carolina
Nov. 21, Virginia

Oh. 3 P5 teams. 2 of them at home. Um. I hope we have our new stadium by then, or else we're leaving a lot of money on the table. At least we get a lot of chances to beat a P5 opponent.

2022:
Sept. 10, Virginia Tech
Sept. 17. at Virginia.
TBA, Idaho

I wonder if we'll get another P5 team for this year.
Let's spank some hoos...

If I'm not mistaken the initial Virginia Tech deal started as a 2 - 1, then it was extended to several home and aways. If that's the case, hopefully this is just the beginning to a longer term series.
UVA, Virginia Tech, and ECU in 2018. Nice...

I was looking at the future schedules as well. It's great for the fans to play these P5 schools, but the team will really have it's work cut out to make a bowl game those years.
Based on the quote in the article from Selig, "Our budget is such that we have to take a guarantee game every couple of years," it seems as though a change in scheduling practices has been made. It looks like we will be scheduling this type of game every couple of years due to economic reality of COA's and smaller media payouts. They may as well make them with teams that are easy for our fans to travel to such as UVA.

I'd personally rather see these games than a Bowl game. Hopefully, we can go both.

Not a lot of out of easy out of conference wins on the schedules starting in 2018. We better get to the point where we get 5-6 conference wins consistently if we want to see many bowl games.

Totally agree. I'd be willing to take some risk losing a bowl game to play these high profile games.

Nope--we're doing it the hard way.

But if it ever comes together (say in 2018 or 2020) we're going to have a really fun ride that year.

Those are schedules that will get a coach fired...

Yep, look at the momentum a season like ECU recently had creates.

That's an interesting way to put it, and given the lackluster state of CUSA's bowl slate, maybe the smarter way of looking at things is to make the P5 home game the bigger deal, with the bowl game sort of a nice little treat at the end. Obviously a conference title and possible Access Bowl trip would be the real carrot, but Virginia Tech/Virginia/East Carolina/North Carolina at home is probably going to interest me a lot more than an early-bowl-season game against a rando from the MAC or Sun Belt
In 2022 I will be 76. Here's hoping I can make to the new stadium for those games!

EDIT: Had to change 77 to 76. My math already sucks.
I'll be 75. At this point I don't buy green bananas anymore!
