I've never liked that, either.

I remember when I was about 17 my father voted for a candidate that he disapproved of, for that exact reason. I never told him so, but it didn't sit well with me, even then.

is another 'why' the electoral college needs to be shut the fk down.....

just another little reason for 14.5 costa....

You have to go back to Bill Clinton to find a presidential nominee/candidate more dishonest than Hillary Clinton.

Although, I admit, John Edwards was very, very close in that regard.

The Electoral College is pretty important in my opinion.

The nation shouldn't be totally subservient to the interests of highly populated parts of the country.

I honestly get what you're driving at....

however, if a number is only a number (which it is), then one's vote might matter and more would vote if they thought it mattered....

that's why it was created to begin with....

scary how it all goes full circle....

however, today is a different day.....the frustrated vote would mean more if 1:1 was casted

It would be a total historical misstatement to say the electoral college was created to dissuade people from voting.
I'm in favor of the Electoral College for a lot of reasons, but one reason in particular is that if the presidency were decided on a pure popular-vote basis, then the motivation to cheat would be instantly maximized at every precinct in the country. It's bad enough to have that problem in the "purple"/toss-up states, which is the case now. But if you ditch the EC, it will be everywhere.

Also, in the case of a 50/50-type national result, imagine the logistics and the litigation that would be involved in a national recount. Think what a nightmare that would be. Take the rage and anger of the Florida/2000 scenario and multiply it by a thousand.
