From 247 Sports, FB recruiting score by division:
(love UAB, but obviously had to asterisk their good work)

East:
150 Marshall
133 MT
122 FAU
119 WKU
118 ODU
115 FIU
81 Charlotte

West:
136 USM
128 LaTech
96 NT
96 UTEP
90 Rice
83 UTSA

158* UAB

Q. What's going on with Texas recruiting? Does it break late? Seemed odd that all 4 Texas programs are underperforming everyone in the East except Charlotte.

I think underperforming is a totally ridiculous statement, no offense. When you have the top team in the conference with an 81 rating and the bottom team at 76, there is a paper thin difference between all teams.
Texas, Texas State, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston, Rice, UTSA, UTEP, North Texas, plus you have Oklahoma, OK State, LSU, Arkansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and State, etc regularly competing for the recruits there.....that's a whole lot of competition.

Too much competition for talent and those schools were bottom four in West this year and don't have much positive football history overall.

Confused. What rankings are you looking at?
Weird. Usually everything is bigger in TX. Got to point to the recent UH / TCU / Tulsa / SMU / etc. improvements in facilities, conference affiliation, etc.

This... That's a LOT of schools your competing with for a finite list of talent.

Ohio State, Alabama, pretty much all the major FBS programs recruit Texas. Recruiting in no longer regional
USM fans are getting a little creepy on twitter to that 3 star WR McNair that flipped from USM to UTSA.

I wonder if and how many times a fan on Twitter cost his or her team a recruit because of stupid tweets. Just don't tweet them is my personal opinion.
Agreed x 100. They are kids. Middle aged men tweeting at them is just creepy as is regardless of the rules.

You can call it a flip if you want. He was a december signee that did not graduate so his letter is null. Truth is few of the mcnairs have played cause most dont graduate high school like Steve Jr.
If he is having academic issues at a juco there is a high chance he wont graduate and ever play a down of ball at the fbs level.

Its funny that in a state the size of texas with all the talent there your in Mississippi telling our commits that our coaches will all be fired. But then again you hired Frank Wilson.

Like I said, the USM fans are not taking this well.

You guys are funny. Remember the west title comes thru Hattiesburg.
Sorry, he meant to say the C-USA title. Just call it the C-USM title. People will know what you're talking about.

By all reports McNair is a very good player. Best wishes to him in San Antonio.
Getting back to the main topic ... I believe it's a combination of things that are going wrong. None of the CUSA Texas teams had a winning record last season ... none seem to have any momentum building. UTSA is replacing their staff. North Texas has a new staff and recruiting is picking up late. Rice and UTEP both had losing seasons.

I believe it's just one of those years where all four teams are struggling to recruit. Give the UNT and UTSA staffs a full year to recruit and I think you'll see better results. Let Rice and UTEP return to bowl games and you should see them pick up next recruiting season.
There is a lot of competition in Texas, but there is a lot of talent to compete for.
