I want to see where everyone is coming from so lets review the stats.

Let's see a coach takes over a program with a recent history of making the NCAA and even the final four. But due to improper behavior by the previous coach the team is in trouble with the NCAA.

So even though the coach wins something like 25 games that first year the team is not going to the NCAA.

Spends the next few years with 20-25 wins and makes the NCAA but doesn't make it to the sweet 16.

So when he has his first season with fewer than 20 wins he is on the hot seat. And heaven forbid he has back to back season without 20 wins that he needs to be fired.

Is that correct.
Fact: Pastner has more losses to RPI 200 or worse than he has wins vs the top 25

Fact: 70% of Pastner's wins have come from teams ranked worse than 100 in the RPI

Fact: Pastner has a record below .500 against teams ranked in the top 50 of the RPI

Fact: A team of only our transfers over the last 1.5 yeas could be fielded and with an average coach, finish with a top 75 RPI and post season finish. With a good coach, NCAA.

Fact: Pastner has steadily lost ground in recruiting over his 7 years here, and the future is looking more bleak.

Fact: Sunshine pumpers view last season as an aberration. Realists view the year of the 4 Kings as the aberration. Take away that year, and Pastner has given us 6 years with only ONE win vs a top 25 team…. and that was #25 Saint Mary's in which we dodged a last second 3 from the best shooter in the conference
Fact: we haven't made it out of the first weekend of the tourney when we were in it.
Haven't we done this once or twice recently?

ANYONE who can still support this coach, especially given his ridiculous salary, is simply a fool. Anyone defending his record in light of all the above is a damn fool.

Good post, +3. The OP would do well to do his research before posting something as silly as he's done.

WOW! That is an astonishing and damning FACT!
I think the haters need to do their research because i was not taking about Pastner. The stats above do not belong to Pastner. They belonged to Finch. Based on your expectations you would have fired Finch the year before Penny arrived on campus.

But you left out some other facts. Plus, Hardaway (the player) is not about to walk thru that door. Pastner now is more analogous to Finch in '96 - team performance has fallen AND recruiting has dropped off significantly.

I don't recall Coach Finch being paid an outrageous salary but failing to produce comparable results.
What little respect I had for you I lost when you posted something from Big Bang theory. Ugh.

Fact is when examining the stats with out knowing who was who. You looked at Finch's record and believing it was Pastner you jumped with both feet. But as soon as you realized who belonged to the stats you began trying to back track. Proving you hatred has nothing to do with actually performance but a personal dislike for the man.

Hatred had nothing to do with it. I like Josh and hope he can still get things worked out and be our coach for the next 30 years. I just dont think he can do it now and I think it will be very difficult to get this sinking ship turned around. I will admit tha I had no idea that you were talking about Finch. How would I, all you ever do is throw Pastner's "remarkable" record out there and defend it, usually included with incomplete facts. Anyway, you got me completely wrong, just like most of your other arguments. You defend Josh based on a partial selection of facts, but refuse to see the whole picture. I will be pulling whole-heartedly for the Tigers and Josh at SMU and beyond.
was Finch actually on the hot seat back in 89-90? I honestly don't remember and of course we didn't have this medium back then.
Memphis fell off of a cliff when David Vaughn was injured....everyone understood that.
Larry Finch was able to beat a few ranked programs...in fact his FIRST WIN as a Tiger coach was over a team in the top 20....
FACT: There should be a limit on the number of threads you start.
#YOLO
Finch followed a final four coach as well but was saddled with NCAA penalties and probation.

Finch lost Marvin Alexander and Sylvester Gray due to eligibility issues surrounding dealings with an agent.

Finch lost Vaughn to injury and then the NBA.

Vincent Askew declared after his junior year but should have stayed in school for his senior year.

Everyone knew Penny was on the way. Charlie Moore ain't Penny.

Finch is still one of the most beloved figures in Memphis.

Just a few more facts.
Penny and, to maybe a bigger extent, David Vaughn saved Larry's bacon.

Finch was trending down, but at least the fans had hope when he pulled in Anthony Douglass and Billy Smith, and had Penny and Vaughn in the wings.

Pastner, in 2016, may have as many as 6 spots available and as of now has another JUCO coming in along with a guy most folks believe will be a nice 4 year player but not an impact frosh.

Pastner isn't in on any other players in the Top 150. That is where the real issue lies. No excitement, no hope and no reason to see how it can get better.

He was so beloved during his last years as coach that nobody came to games, but when he was fired, RC was demonized.
