Let's say we get someone who is either so-so or an up-and-comer. How soon do people renew season tickets?
Are many of you who let your tickets go looking at it as "anyone but Pastner?"

I genuinely believe there is a large "anyone but Pastner" crowd. This city loves basketball and the Tigers and any new face will come in, say the right things, and tickets will sell.
We just neep HOPE!
Just hire a guy that can coach the F outta some basketball.

This is closer to the truth for sure.
Pastner didn't make the tournament in year one, and most people were happy with those results. If he doesn't make it by year two, there may be some unhappy folks.
He'll need to have some success in the NCAAs by year four.

Sweet 16 every 5 years on average. We're Memphis...CJP has got some of our fans feeling like we can't aim higher than this ... accepting that we have too high of expectations. BS!

disagree...look at what we were paying Finch and Tic...from Arena and locker rooms...to boosters and conference affiliation...this is a totally different program.
Pastner has had success...he has 160 wins, 4 NCAAs...kids like Barton and the Lawson's...it's not like the next guy will be following Tic Price and a scandal.
I'd much rather follow up Pastner than Calipari.
Forget the 'wow' hire. Forget the 'hot' candidate. Just go get solid, proven basketball coach who has a 5-6 year winning track record in D1.

IMHO. Your usually spot on, but I disagree with you this time. There is much more parity in D1 ball these days, with the really good players leaving early. Things change faster. Every one is on TV. Even with JP at the helm and the mess this team is, I've always felt we were 1 really good and consistent perimeter scorer away from being top 15 team.

Memphis had a national brand then that just about every high school kid would be interested in being a part of. Not so much anymore. Remember, 6 years is a long time in the life of a kid. When we were last 'hot', the kids we are recruiting now were in middle school.
