A lot of unrest on the CUSA board between the news of the TV deal and the deregulation vote.

Should the CUSA and the SBC reorganize into two new leagues and is there a legal route to get there?
BUT LOOK AT ALL OF THE MEDIA MARKETS hahaha

To answer your question, I definitely think both conferences should merge and then split regionally.
Wish it would happen it should happen but too many schools out there with egos to prevent it from happening.
Yes, there should be a reshuffling. But it won't happen because it would bruise an ego or two.
You could make a fun conference if you took the best of each league and put them together.

That's video game stuff though.

Yes... G5s need a major geographical reshuffling.
I think there should be a reorganization CUSA and the Sunbelt. But it would be a tough road for that to happen. So what may really need to happen is that the CUSA West Splits into a new conference and invite NMSU, Texas St, ULL, and Ark St. . Likewise the remaining Sunbelt members invite teams from the CUSA east. Could pick them all up or pick and choose which ones, but then some schools would have to go Indy if they wanted to stay FBS. (i.e. UNCC, MTSU)
I can see a geographic rational for it, with the hullabaloo about eastern SBC schools traveling to NMSU, and Idaho.
An Eastern Athletics Conference based on merging the eastern C-USA and eastern SBC schools could be possible, but then some of the Louisiana schools would end up stepping all over each other on the CUSA side.
Without adding any FCS move ups:
EAC(12)
FAU, FIU, GSO,GST, CCU, APP, UNCC, ODU, Marshall, MTSU, Troy, WKU
C-USA (14)
ASU, USM, LT, LL, LM, UTSA, UNT, TS, Rice, NMSU, UTEP, USA, UAB. Idaho.

Yep.
You guys talk about geographic reshuffling….what about just putting together the best football programs in the two leagues? There isn't enough basketball might in the two conferences to really make off well from the NCAA tournament, but we could arguably compete with the MWC and AAC in the CFP ratings…and the TV deal would probably be more valuable then the next iteration of both the SBC and CUSA TV deal as well.

Yep.

No way it happens for a little while. But several years down the road, if TV money continues to drop, I could see it happening.

It's going to take some administration changes in schools on both sides though. Still some heavy bitterness from the last round of realignment.
I'd be interested in knowing who folks on here would put in an ideally reshuffled conference with their schools. I'd probably start with wanting to stay in a conference with GS, Troy, and USA.
It needs to happen but I doubt it will ever happen. Schools like Marshall, Charlotte, and LaTech see themselves as above what the Sun Belt has to offer, so convincing them to take in new members and give up some of their own would be virtually impossible.

If I was an AD right now, I would be talking to other ADs about creating a new conference that is geographically central and would increase overall revenue. Get on the phone with like-minded schools (for App, that would be MTSU, WKU, ODU, Georgia Southern, CCU, etc.) and talk to them about what that would look like. If enough schools break off and do this, then the remaining members will be forced together to start anew.

It wouldn't do much for the footprints of the conference, but it'd put an end to the markets vs on field arguments. Also, NMSU and UTEP could be real travel partners for the out-liars. Idaho would be Indy or FCS in this scenario.

Yep. You'd have to have several AD's destroy the delusions of grandeur of their constituents, which might cost them a job. Pride won't let it ever happen.

App St, Georgia Southern, Marshall, ODU, WKU for sure. I think UAB, Ga ST, and Troy would be interesting as well. Possibly UNCC. Not sure about the Florida schools.
Once the dust settles from whatever finally happens to the Big-12, my guess is you will see a western group of current CUSA schools break away and form a new league with a few SBC schools plus maybe a couple of MVC schools.

Then, the rest of CUSA cherry picks the SBC.

The reshuffling will not be orderly. It will not be pretty, but it will happen.

Agree . . it will be brutal and nasty just as in the past . . a lot of schools will be scrambling again and begging again for an FBS Conference home. 04-jawdrop
