Quote from Thursday’s game: "We got off to a solid start and when they started rolling we tucked out tails,” and “ "We didn't come out and fight back at all and that's probably the most disappointing thing. I believe that's the first time we've done that all year. Our effort and intensity was not very good.” Does that sound familiar? Sure Karen could have said on Thursday. Actually that quote is from Southern Miss women’s basketball coach Joye Lee-McNelis after her team’s disappointing loss to Charlotte.
So what happens when two teams coming off disappointing loses filled with lack of intensity play each other? Well…that answer we will find out this Saturday when the LM host the Southern Miss Lady Eagles on Military Appreciation Night.

Yes Southern Miss is known for defense. That is what they pride themselves on. However it’s there 6’3” center that has my attention.

Jenkins as a true freshman averages 12.8 ppg and 9.8 rpg. However in just two conference games, she is averaging 25.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg while shooting 63.9% from the floor. That is All-American level. Now it’s a small sample size, but for a freshman to show this type of production is unreal. Jenkins will have to the focal point of Young and Ajemba.

The Lady Eagles attach inside. Dinkins and Norris are the teams best outside shooters. About 1/3 of Dinkin’s shots are beyond the arc and Norris…well, over half her shots are for three’s. With Dinkins and Jewett-Giles, they have two floor generals who try aren’t afraid to pass. Clemons as the team’s lone senior is a dangerous scorer down low. But it all comes down to defense and they put the pressure on from start to finish.

Honestly I am concerned about SMU’s freshman center. We haven’t matched up well against teams with a strong presence on the inside. Even if she doesn’t rack up blocks, she will alter shots.

This will be an interesting game because both teams are coming off disappointed loses where both coaches talked about the lack of intensity. Time to see which team wants it more....

Before the LM played La Tech, Jennie Simms was finally recognized as player of the week for the first time in her career by Con USA. Now if she could just get some help....
They got the win today over USM (a team that beat La Tech).
Nice win. The Ladies played very hard. Still turned the ball over a ton, but they rebounded like crazy and fought hard. Getting that big Center to foul out was huge then the late rebound that Jennie just snatched away was the beginning of putting that game away. This team is an enigma for sure.
Yeah.....maybe this is the game that will finally the team back on track. The offensive rebounding was the key to this game and honestly...they played with a fire that I didn't see on Thursday. Years ago I gave up trying to figure who KB would start. But I like having Ajemba start. I'm a huge Annika fan, but it probably is better to have her come off the bench. Ajemba came up huge today (12 pts, 13 boards, 2 blocks) and went well with the Young and Simms.

Now we hit the road...again. I know that the LM have no control over the conference schedule. But yikes, in between Dec 2nd (education game) and Jan 28th the team will have played 11 games with just two at home. That is tough for any team.
