According to Football Scoop Staff, Nieman is headed to Rutgers. Now two coaches in the past week to leave. First LB coach Ross Watson, now our D-Coordinator Jay Nieman.
They must have liked what they saw in the Boise game
Hey Rutgers, we can throw in the OC at half price!
When Ben Niemann de-committed and signed with Iowa, I thought this was going to happen. I think Jay would have stayed at NIU at least until Ben's playing days were over.
I guess Niemann coached new Rutgers HC Chris Ash when he played at Drake.
Kevin Kane would be my first choice. Not sure f he'd leave Kansas, however
The Football Scoop twitter feed indicated there were "rumblings of more" (NIU coaches looking/leaving) and ended with "Issues."

His younger son graduates high school this spring, so that's one less thing to hold him here.

Hmm interesting, issues. Does this mean the coaching staff has lost faith in Carey and the future is no longer bright?

Or it could not mean that at all. Again, Niemann coached Ash when he played in college, not surprising he'd get the call to be on his staff.
When your coaches are taking better jobs it's a sign the program is doing well. For all the doom and gloom around here, if the coaches were doing such a bad job, you wouldn't see them moving up in their careers.

DC job at a Big 10 school, even if its Rutgers is going to pay a ton more, congrats to Niemann, defense played really well this year until the Boise game.
Not a stretch that Niemann's salary at Rutgers will be close to $400,000 per year. That is a HUGE jump from his salary here.
We lost a helluva coach. Nieman got $$$. Watson left for the stability a. new coach receives (3 years).

Carey earns his chops now - Novak lost a ton assistants back in the day and kept on filling the tank.

Crossroads. Watch the db - WR coach , I am not sold on our OLINE coach, but time will tell if he gets a P5 offer $$$$.
i'd wager more than anything this kind of thing was more the result of the poor performance in the bowl game than anything.

And the guys you wish would leave end up staying.....

These coaches are all gypsies and this happens everywhere...just follow the "Scoop" site.

Something's up though....it's rare when the Scoop will say "issues".
Niemann is 55 years old. If he wants to make some money before retirement he needs to do it now. Good for him, he did a great job here and I wish him the best.

Regarding "issues" with the staff here are some potential ones off the top of my head:
-"They want more money." No doubt, but its unlikely multiple coaches would leave at once for that.

-"They aren't getting along with the head coach." Possible but doesn't seem likely since this staff has been together awhile and always seemed harmonious.

-"Sean Frazier going nuts after the Boise game and demanding changes." This one seems more likely to me. Frazier's ability to execute the facilities master plan depends on winning, winning big and winning now. Anything that gets in the way of that will be a problem for him. Also he probably feels embarrassed after lobbying for that bowl matchup and watching the team get *****slapped.

Can anyone think of other possible "issues"?

I thought the same. We'd have a good coache locked in if he would have come and a helluva player it turns out.

Oh well...this is going to get very interesting.

Carey will show what he's made of here in the next few months.

huh? no, this has nothing to do with that. It's a pay day.
