If Bohn plans to keep CTT, then shouldn't he be coming out and giving his full fledged support? If he is going to stay, then the AD should be getting behind him for the immediate future of the program. One way or the other, Bohn should be having a press conference soon about the current state of the football program.

Sometimes I wonder if it is just us die hards, that want the heat turned up to boil, and not the big money donors or those in the administrative positions.

Sometimes I wonder why we die hards even care. If not one of 15-20 teams in the P5, the rest of us are just turning into a concessions business to create a revenue stream for the respective schools. We get pissed about this stuff like we would have a chance to vacation on the French Riviera otherwise, but we are permanently domiciled in Siberia.
From the Enquirer article; "Bohn recently told The Enquirer of his “resounding” support for Tuberville. When asked if that meant a potential contract extension, Bohn said:

“We have resounding support with his existing agreement. I don’t know how else to categorize it.”

I wouldn't say he's silent
That is a bizarro world comment. Decode that one for me, please.
I have to agree that Bohn seems missing in action on this one. If he's truly committed to keeping Tuberville, it's time for a public statement of support. Even a disinterested observer watching the debacle in Hawaii would have to question what was going on with this football program, so it's not unreasonable for donors, alumni and fans to be seeking those answers from the AD.

Some have suggested that Tuberville's buyout decreases after January 31. That's a long time to wait to make a coaching change and would pretty much wipe out any hopes for retaining quality recruits this year. I'm fine with that if it means a long-term solution and a new staff that can build a program.

Others would suggest a reluctance for UC to rock the boat right now with the possibility of B12 expansion looming large after the CCG deregulation vote in two weeks. To me, that argument doesn't make any sense. There's no certainty of B12 expansion or UC's inclusion. Even if that happened, wouldn't the buzz of a new coach and the potential to play in the B12 more than offset any recruiting advantage the current staff might have? To me, this staff has squandered a lot of brand equity and goodwill achieved this past decade.

As always, I'll be there to support the Bearcats. But December 2015 makes me think of the guy who keeps hitting his thumb with a hammer because he knows how good it will feel when he stops.
immediately after he was hired i saw him at the basketball game in the student section carrying on and having a good time. i cant remember a time i have seen him since when he wasnt trying to raise money.

i wonder how much time this cincinnati fc is taking up and who is really in charge down in clifton?

come to think of it i dont see santa much anymore either, at least not like in the past. maybe someone higher up didnt like all the attention he was drawing to himself?
My guess is he doesn't have someone available he is ready to give the reigns to for the next four years at this time. Instead of making a quick trigger fire and possibly getting the wrong guy for at least the next 3 years, he's going to give Tuberville one more year...get him through his first two recruiting classes as upperclassman and then make a move if he needs to.

might be easier to attract the coach you want after you are in a better conference.

i still dont understand why gran left. tubs was best man at his wedding. why go to uk where they have a history of firing coaches? stoops might last 2 maybe 3 years at most. could be wishful thinking but something doesnt seem right. should know in the next month if something has been going on behind the scenes or if bohn has been sleeping on the job.

That sounds like a strong comment that a contract extension/raise is no longer on the table....which is smart...as Tubbs is being paid handsomely.

Just fulfill your current contract...as it was the best contract in the conf (now Herman is making more), no clue why teams want to continue to dig a bigger hole by offering new deals to coaches when the current contract is just fine.
do you really think UC is going to be asked to the Big 12 now? Temple will get an invite before we do, as they would bring in the Philly & NYC markets.

perhaps Bohn is not saying anything as the coach he wants (an OC or DC) still has a game to be played this season.

if i'm bohn, and i'm not, there may be reasons for my silence or, as we used to call it, "patience". there could (hopefully) be issues with the B12, there could be a game left for a particular coach(es) that he may want to talk to, dates affecting any buyout, etc. But, be that as it may, I do think that TT gets one more year to fix this. If they start slow next year, like TT has all 3 years already, I'd consider a mid season move. If he does get it going, then maybe talk extension.

The fact that TT's not shoveling his b.s. about the extension anymore, hopefully means that it's off the table for now. Like everything, else. time will tell.
The longer the "silence" goes on the more awkward this situation becomes. In all fairness to Bohn, we don't know what is going on behind the scenes but at some point you've got to make some public statements on the state of TT's contract talks because of the fact that it has been made "public." This was also part of the quotes made by Bohn a few weeks back:

Quote:Bohn has been busy with many projects, including Tuesday’s announcement that Fifth Third Arena will be renovated beginning in spring 2017. Bohn prefers not to discuss specifics regarding Tuberville’s contract.

“We haven’t really had an opportunity to talk a lot about it,” Bohn said. “I’m sure we’ll have time to talk about that.”

I wonder if Bohn is a little pissed at TT for bringing up his contract situation to the media. Remember this was initiated by Tubs (to my knowledge) as stated in part of the Enquirer article):

Quote:“I told (former UC Athletic Director) Whit Babcock when I came here that I came to stay, and that’s what we plan to do,” Tuberville said. “It’s just something that we need to kind of redo (the contract). I’m not looking for money or anything. Just looking for some continuity."

Another year or two?

"Yeah.”

I also wonder if Gran and Hinshaw leaving has created some "fly in the ointment" for Bohn. At the very least, their leaving should make him pause and do more due diligence on the situation before extending (or not extending) the contract.
It's also been the Christmas break. And UC had to travel over that break.

UC had to "prepare" for a bowl game.

They probably haven't had much time to discuss his contract until this week.

It should make him look at what the University pays assistant coaches if anything.
fire TT now, and have a 4-8 next year, and 7-5 the following year, OR fire TT next year, and have 3-9 seasons for several years, along with a 40% drop in attendance.

time to pull the trigger Mr. Bohn.

Those aren't the two options available. I doubt UC goes 3-9 next year with Tubs. Additionally, you make the wrong hire and you set the program back another 3-4 years or more. There is still talent in the program and I think before you fire Tubs you want to make sure you can get the right guy. The worst case scenario is firing Tuberville and then hiring the wrong guy. I agree that from what he has done UC needs to be looking for a new coach, but I don't think they should get rid of him without having interest from guys they are confident can be successful (and I have no idea if they do or who those guys would be..though I have people I like and would be contacting).
Do AD's often talk with the media? It would be more weird to me if he was talking to the media.
I think Mark hit closest here. I think Bohn is not extending Tuberville. There wasn't more money going to be given to assistants who won't be here after next year. That would also speak to Gran and Hinshaw leaving although Gran is still chasing HC chance so maybe he felt he needed to do this to increase his chance at that.

Recall this year had a boatload of openings.

The buyout also decreases next year again.

At least that's what I hope. Bad news is we have to suffer through another disappointing season. And a rebuild is another year away. But perhaps UC is going to be headed to P5 at this time next year.
Then again maybe Bohn is too busy working the phones trying to get his ticket punched like Worthless Whit.
