I have not seen every game, BUT what I have seen is terrible.
Nobody wanted to see 5-7 Nebraska v. 8-4 UCLA...maybe half the stadium was full. Maybe...
USM v UW didn't have a chance. It looked like two teams scrimmaging at a neutral site.
These are the rule rather than the exception.

The worst part is that the bowls make their bank on the mandatory ticket allotments sold to the universities at inflated prices. So the bowl system is essentially making money off of the tax-payers who may not give a flip about the games.

Supply and demand is not there, but as long as the bowls can fleece public institutions they will keep adding more irrelevant bowls.

They need to give everyone a break and just get on with the all-inclusive playoff system. Win your conference and you are in. If you cannot win your conference either:
A) don't ***** and complain...or
B) change to a conference you can win.
the 5-7 teams seem to be doing well...Nebraska beat UCLA...and San Jose won.

Minny (5-7) still has the Quick Lane Bowl
Most bowl games are made for tv not for the fans. Is time people stop making an issue on fans not showing up and paying high prices for Exhibition games.

I was watching the Sun Bowl, yesterday and wondering how in hell do you expect people living in Miami to travel to El Paso to watch two average teams in a meaningless game in a blizzard and pay lots of money to do that.

It's a scam and fans are becoming smarter about using their money
Wahooooo an attendance thread and Tulane can't be blamed!!!!

Spot on redcat. The bowl system has become one of the biggest scams in sports.
Honestly, the bowls and their fat cat money wasting committees are no longer needed. The bowls should be owned by the conferences and be designed to be fan/school friendly. The conferences put together literally hundreds of games a year--there is no reason the conferences cannot manage7-8 post season games each. Its not that hard. They don't have to make tons of money---they should aim to stay solvent and spin off a few dollars for a charity.

Geez folks! Lighten up. Bowls are three hour commercials for sponsors. They are a reward for players, staffs, family and fans. They are content for TV. They are Two to four weeks extra practice time for coaches and teams. I just attended one with announced attendance of 18k in Orlando and I had a blast.

These are made for TV games. People have time off during the holidays. People like to watch college football.

And so most of these bowl games draw extremely well compared to a regular season game between the same teams.

It's all about ESPN selling advertising.

Greenwave will be here any minute to say Tulane would've sold out there allotment and packed the stadium outside of that fact in a sellout and then promptly beat any team they would've faced haha

Bowl Games should be regionalized other than the major bowls.

Glad you had fun...after the few tough years with a start up. I don't mind 40 bowl games...I love having sports options to watch.

BTW, looked like about 5-6k there.
Bowls are actually chamber of commerce events to fill hotel rooms, bars and restaurants. The game in many cases is an afterthought. Sure the match up is important but more from a will fans of Team A travel here to see their team play Team B, who they also hope brings fans.

The reality is a 5-7 Nebraska will bring as many fans or more than many programs would with better records. And for most bowls that's the most important thing.

Nah he will just brag about the history of Tulane, the NOLA market and their academics.

FWIW, the Sun Bowl is a local institution, a source of city pride, so almost always draws a good local crowd.

Agreed...Miami and WSU were actually 2 perfect opponents for the bowl game. The local community doesn't need the attending schools to bring a ton of fans.

I know that full well I have been to it. Still it doesn't fail to address my point above on not being an attractive place in late December for fans in Southern Florida to see two average teams play an exhibition game as well as being expensive to attend it.

Weather related...trust me if the weather was good...it would be full or nearly full.
