I agree with them saying he's not a bad coach, but he's not a good coach -- but that's why it was not a bad 2 year deal. At the time, there was nobody to get. At least with Cubit you know what you were going to get, and they aren't planning on having him stay anyway (unless he makes the team have an 8W season next year or something). Just due to lack of options. An F grade is too strong - lol.
The Athletic Department is (still) a tire fire. No one's touching that job until that's finally resolved. Since Illinois has to field a football team in the meantime, Cubit gets to stay. Their other option was to drop the program for a year or two like UAB, but this is about the same.
This will be his retirement package....Two years making over a million or so, gives him a secure future, should this job goes down in flames....
It will be well deserved, but I'm still happy he isn't our coach..
HATER!!!!!
Tim McCargiale has jumped ship for Illinois. It's always nice to have the playbook of your opponent.
A list by a Sports writer.

Grad level Broncoblitz. No more, no less.
Calling Cubits situation what it is is fair. It's a MULTI-year interim head coaching situation.

If they hire an AD that will take the job in January that has a itch for a new coach right now it could over before February.
Right, that would go over well with the board. We paid a guy 3 million to coach for two months. You're sharp 01-ncaabbs
Unlikely because they have instability above the AD too.
Unless you see a 8 or more win season next fall I think everyone expects a change next November.

Considering the circumstances and the epic failures that swirl around the admin and former staff not a piercing insight. But he's a sports writer filling out space.

What is telling is that around that epic Admin and coaching failure 1 person rose above it.

I don't slobber over a pig just because it gives me bacon. I respect Cubit. He's accomplished and an honorable person. Fleck, not so much.

I didn't know that cubit was so honorable until I saw him with my own eyes pull out his own wallet from his pocket and pay for some old lady's groceries. And it is a good thing a camera man happened to be there at that very unselfish moment to capture it and then post it on line, or we might not have ever known just how honorable cubit is.

Cubit is probably a good person. However - he has extreme anger issues. You could observe this on the sidelines. I saw it first hand once at Kalamazoo Counrty Club. We were playing a foresome and he came up on us fast as a single in a cart. The old crumugeon was actually pissed at us and hit into us- not once but twice. He was a hot head and he's lucky he didn't get his ass kicked. I knew who he was, so I let it go and semi- defended him with the other 3. This is when I started to have concerns about him.

I think his anger wore on people including some players. I certainly don't miss him given my experience. Point is - everyone has issues..... Let's not pretend Cubit was the moral standard.
Why did your foresome feel the need to not let a single with a cart pass? I'd be annoyed pretty quick too.
He wouldn't go through until a few holes later. It was weird - he was melting down for no reason
