Went on to Iowa State's main message board. Check out the thread on the basketball forum entitled "What a game". Iowa State fans were impressed with us. They loved our crowd and were complimentary of the team. A couple of the standout comments:

"Better road crowd than Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor,"

"Sign these guys up for the Big Twelve"

Nice!!!
Iowa state brought a good crowd with them last night. They cheered but we're respectful. Talked to a few at an establishment after and had nothing but great things to say about the game atmosphere and campus. Said they hoped to be back in a couple years.
In his pre-game interview the ISU coach mentioned the Big12 atmosphere, or words to that effect.

I believe the direct quote was "this feels like a conference road game"
The student section was fantastic. You could tell it was giving the players a boost, too.
Glad they were impressed but that means near to nothing. They are not the decision makers.

The BOT's, University Heads (Pres. or Chancellor) and AD's are the decision makers. They care about MONEY. Will adding this team not cost money or better add money. The care about image, is the team in our arena academically.

Perhaps a few boosters matter. If T Boone suggested OKS support UC for the B12 do you think it would matter. Damn straight it would. MONEY!

Hey the Lindners have money. Let them pony up. We're putting soccer crap all over our football stadium and carving out some seats, so I think it's their turn!
The Lindner's have provided a great deal of financial support to the University of Cincinnati, both for academic buildings, scholarships and for athletic department and facility improvements. UC needs a larger number of athletic department donors, not calling on just a few families to provide all the resources. There are no oil and natural gas reserves under Nippert Stadium.

He mistakenly wrote his password on one of the $100 bills he burns to heat the servants' quarters.

In other words, every silver lining has a cloud.
We should be pleased to learn that Iowa State fans liked our campus and were impressed with the atmosphere. Reputation building is most often a slow and steady process and we can use all the help we can get in dispelling misconceptions about our facilities, the campus and the city; in Big 12 country and elsewhere. Many outside I-275 still believe Cincy is a smaller, private university. Others believe it's a commuter college. Far fewer realize it's a high enrollment, top 25 public research university and that story needs to be shared on a regular basis.

The ISU folks we met were very nice as well. They were populating the restaurants and bars near U Square and seemed to be enjoying our city. I suspect it's a home and home arrangement only but it could make for a great longer series for us.

Time for Bohn to develop new sources (a constant Ragpicker theme)
I was at a Christmas party in Dayton and met a high ranking business executive who thought Ohio State was the only public university in Ohio. We had to break out the Internet to convince him.

Depending on his age I can understand why he would think schools like Akron, Toledo, and Cincinnati were 'private' (Municipal run is still public but not in the sense that he was probably thinking) I mean, heck, most schools named after a singular city (not as a division of a state system ex. UCLA, UW-Milwaukee, UT-SA, UNY-Buffalo) ARE private such as Tulsa, both of the Boston schools, NYU, Providence, Miami (FL), SLU, Detroit-Mercy, Richmond, Dayton, Syracuse, etc...but for the love of God, Kent STATE University. Youngstown STATE University, Bowling Green STATE University, Cleveland STATE University...some people...lol

It is amazing how uneducated some people are. He lives in Dayton and never suspected the word STATE in Wright State Univ. had some implication about being a state public university?
