Is playing great. Shout out to Bacote. Brought it big time against relentless pressure from RI. Great game. When Bacote plays aggressive like he has been the last couple games he is hard to stop and he makes the Monarchs hard to stop.

Senior season, no need to hold anything back now. Go Bacote go!!
When he's on, he's a truly extraordinary player.

I don't pretend to have any qualifications as a sports psychiatrist, but I wonder if AB needs a chippy opponent in front of him in order to break out his "A" game. I noticed him and RI's #25 getting into it with one another all game long. Aaron refused to back down, and seemed to relish putting the ball up right in his opponent's face.

My hope is that this team in general, and Aaron in particular, have now got themselves in full game mode just in time for conference play.
Does anyone else think we keep Bacote as the first guy off the bench? In the past few games he seems to have responded well to that.

I'm really hoping he has a great Senior season. If anyone on this team deserves it it's him. He (and Shaw actually) are the last guys on the team that played during the dreaded 5-25 year. If we can get to the NCAA's, he'll be the focus point for what could be a great story.
Game script dictates much of what is available to Bacote. URI was chasing and had to amp up the pressure which opened the game up for a player like Aaron, he scored 23 points in the second half.

I still believe that the opponent's objective is to not allow Bacote to become a primary scorer because that is almost a certain loss. URI had no choice but to abandon their game script after Trey busted the game open in the first half.
Nice game, Aaron! You make our team so much better when you are aggressive.
We will not compete in CUSA this year without this effort from Aaron and Trey. Glad Aaron is playing so well this year. Hopefully the law of averages is forecasting a great conference season for Trey as he has been a bit off in many games. Keep Stith healthy and we have as good a chance as anyone in Birmingham.
When Aaron makes his first shot, good things are in store. When he misses it, not so good.

(OK, that's oversimplified, but he is either on or off. Unfortunately, his ability or inability to score seems to affect the rest of his game. Either all or nothing.)
There is going to be a lot of talk this summer about how we are going to replace Trey and Aaron. Last night's game was a prime example of how valuable these guys are. We have some nice talent coming in, but these two guys are irreplaceable when they are on. Both of them were playing with a ton of confidence last night.

Exactly. This is still a huge year for us. Definitely should still EXPECT a CUSA title in March.

Who really knows what the backcourt is bringing to the table next year?
Anyone see Stith's post moves last night? The shots didn't fall but with time I would expect him to be significant threat with his back to the basket. Last night he out muscled and out hustled the URI big men. He may not be in the best shape as he looks winded at times. But when he's in there....what a beast.

I could see Stith being at least as good as Frank Hassell before all is said and done with. He is almost there, just needs those shots to start falling. Once that happens, he'll become a focal point to run the offense through.

Trey and Aaron were great last night. The problem is that it took 50+ points, and all but 4 second half points between them for us to beat a team that isn't any better than the top 3 or 4 teams in CUSA and we can't reasonably expect that kind combined of production from those two very often. Somebody else has got to be able to score for us to be able to have a chance at winning the CUSA regular season or tournament.

Hassell and Stith are VERY different players man.

Agreed. Stith will never be Frank. He will always be a rebounder first, and will hopefully eventually be able to find a way to score more. But he is not going to be a guy who you dump the ball into and just watch him go to work.

Strongly disagree.
Stith and Frank were playing against each other this past summer at ODU in pickup games, pretty cool imagining those two at the same time. We would be beasting.

Stith is a RS Sophomore whose father played in the NBA. He's had a ton of time in his life to develop a better post game. Hard work only goes so far. Some guys can't jump no matter how hard they train. Others can't run no matter how hard they train.

Steph Curry isn't the most talented offensive player in the NBA solely because of hard work. He was predisposed to have an unbelievable feel for the ball.

Stith is one of the most valuable players on the team. He's a stud. I hate to talk down on a player's game but I'm just keepin it real man.

He already has an excellent post game, that is evident to anyone who is watching. What he doesn't have is the experience to adjust his shot so it falls when getting banged around by D1 athletes. That will come over time. He isn't traveling, turning it over, or getting his shots rejected. They are good shots that just aren't falling. At the end of the season, his numbers are going to be about the same as Frank's sophomore season, and btw, Frank also redshirted.

I hope so too. 04-cheers
Bacote will always be one of the guys that just gets overlooked because he doesn't do eye popping things. He's not a 3 point gunner or a guy that is dunking all over the place. He takes quality shots and makes them or gets fouled. He's been one of the most efficient players in the conference the last 2 years. His advanced statistical ratings are through the roof.
