kept the dribble drive offense that we were running with Cal?
I never understood why we abandoned this.
I will ask for serious non-bashing responses only
I think he prefers the 4 out 1 in motion.

forgive my ignorance please.
is that what some of us jokingly call the circle?
AASAA
He ran it some last night

Actually, we've been running it quite a bit this year. You need 4 guys that can drive for it to be effective. Dribble drive would not work last year with Austin and Shaq posting up high-low.

He has been using it more this year. I think he really came in wanting to do things "his way" and prove they would work though...
It only works well if you have superior athletes with handles.
Don't tell anyone, but for the most part Cal abandoned the dribble drive at Kentucky.

I've been pretty happy with the offensive schemes this year...only have 2 guys that can shoot halfway decent though. Tough to run an offense when the only hope is a layup/putback. We have been better the last 2 games

Josh runs 4 out motion. It's one of the offenses I coach 7-8 grade. If you will explain what "Dribble Drive Offense" is I will gladly discuss it. However the truth is that this is yet another line of BS sold by the Car Salesman known as Cal. Why don't we use the "Platoon System?" Why doesn't Josh use Cal's in game techniques of telling the team "Go Go Go" to encourage fast paced play?

Any decent coach teaches philosophies and can encourage them by using a trigger word. For example, you don't tell a player "Drop to low block and give help D." Instead you teach the philosophy of Help-line D to encourage a team approach when in zone D. Then when you notice a lack of help D in game, you can shout "HelpLine" and emphasize that aspect.

Neither Josh or Cal has terrific grasp on Xs and Os or in game changes. There are many things Cal does that I wish Josh would make part of his process. Dribble Drive isn't one. Unfortunately, most of what Cal does that puts him on top of the NCAA mountain is against NCAA regulations. He brings in Knuckleheaded kids who are crazy talented. Often kids who others don't want because they want the headaches of making them go to class. He simply doesn't make them go to class. He helps people like Skal's "guardian" get what they want to make it happen. Cal is a great motivator. Cal is great at getting players, parents, fans, Dick Vitale to buy into the diarrhea he spews from his mouth.

Sorry.....soap box....Dribble Drive is.....nothing

Cal is not getting many knuckleheads now...He is getting the cream of the crop...

And as far as our offense goes, it seems to break down to beat your man off the dribble and try to draw a foul when we are not making shots.
He ran that figure 8 weave Cal used to run before the JC coach sold him on AASAA once or twice last night. I suppose he might have run it more than that. I did fall asleep early in the second half.

I mean, it's not nothing. It's debatable how much we really ran it, especially after teams started running exotic defenses at us to stop penetration. And Calipari never really fully gave up on screening and posting.

But it is an actual offense that we ran at times starting in 05-06.

I agree with everything but this sentence.

"Cal is great at getting players, parents, fans, Dick Vitale to buy into the diarrhea he spews from his mouth."

Change 2 words and I agreeā€¦

Cal is great at paying players, parents, fans, Dick Vitale to listen to the diarrhea he spews from his mouth.

Here's something you'll notice about Cal's offense-fluidity. Every pass was received by a man approaching the passer (unless it was an obvious back door cut to the basket). No flat footed catches. Another thing, only one or two dribbles before the next pass (except for when Rose was starting the play). Watching that makes me miss CDR and his midrange game. It's a lost art.
