Quote:Wesley French up front, he's doing an outstanding job," Fleck said of the 6-5, 300-pound true freshman offensive lineman. "Anton Curtis (Detroit East English) is doing a tremendous job at receiver and Daniel Jackson (6-3, 250-pound defensive lineman) from Chicago and Obbie Jackson (defensive back, West Bloomfield) are looking really good. Obbie's not the biggest guy (5-11, 180), but he sure is tough

Great news that coach is highlighting these kids as who to watch for next year. I'm glad they are stepping up; they are the ones I was really looking forward to seeing next year. French is crazy; could be a GREAT O-Lineman!

Also, lets dream a little. (Please God, no jinx). We need to just win. BUT, what if we come out and treat MTSU like EMU? What if we win by a lot? And then sign another PR-type recruiting class. I trust that coach will get us in the Media-jet stream....what could we be looking at heading into September as far as pre-season rankings/projections? That's kind of step 1 in program-development...then if we take care of bidness on the field...03-drunk03-cloud9
"125 year history"?!

WMU was founded in 1903.

The first recognized Football team was in 1906.

We didn't become "Major College" (DI) until 1963.

Is there nothing Fleck won't say to build his legend?

And nobody there who will correct him?

Kinda like Animal House when Belushi was talking about when the "...German's bombed Pearl Harbor." Rather than correcting him, someone said "...let it go, he's on a roll!"

04-rock04-chairshot Do you ever like anything about our team or coach ?? Just saying.
Where have I attacked the Team?

Is there anything he can do or say you won't excuse for while attacking other posters?

Sorry, MRBUTT, you're joining my "Ignore" list.

The Broncos flew out about one hour ago on the way to the Bahamas. I hope the staff reminds the kids to turn off the roaming on the cell phones. Otherwise each kid will have a bill for a couple of thousand dollars. We are just a few short days away from making history with our first bowl when ever!

Picky, picky, picky.
So...this is the first back to back bowl appearance for a Bronco football team since 1906.

That's great. Hope it continues.
Beat a P5 team that's in the Top 25 - then it will mean something.

We haven't beaten a P5 team in three years under Fleck.

We'll have two great opportunities (Illinois and Northwestern) to do so next year.

Oh so now there are stipulations for beating a Top 25 team... 03-confused

"They're coming off a great win. The last game of the year they beat Toledo, the #24 ranked team in the country who had previously beaten Arkansas at Arkansas. I think everybody knows how good Toledo is, so for them to go there and beat them at the end of the year is a tremendous win for them."
-Rick Stockstill, MTSU Head Coach in Bahamas Bowl press conference
I'm sure there was NO WAY he was misquoted - the media isn't capable of that, right!?!?!
The game is being played in a 15,000 seat stadium.

Some big "bowl.".

For the players, it is a "Big Bowl." They have earned the opportunity.

Sorry you are not happy for them.

Sorry you are so selfish, narcissistic, and bitter.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a Rose Bowl invitation. 01-wingedeagle
Ha ha. Narcissistic - perfect description for Fleckies.

Our kids aren't stupid. They'll realize most of them played in nicer stadiums in HS much less in college, ones that were full and had cheerleaders and bands too.

I don't think there's one person who'd disagree that the bowl landscape has changed radically in the past 20 years, and that it's no longer the big-time reward for CFB's cream of the crop like it once was. Nor would anyone, including our players, interpret our bowl (and most other bowls) as being "big time."

We can lament that the whole system has gone beyond the saturation point (5-7 teams, in-conference games, etc.) and wax nostalgic for the old days, but at the same time can also appreciate our game for what it is: An extra OOC game in a nice, touristy location, broadcast nationally on ESPN with no competing football games.
Quote:Beat a P5 team that's in the Top 25 - then it will mean something.

Whether they're P5 or G5, it doesn't really matter. Ranked is ranked. You have overrated teams (Northwestern) that are P5 all the time, and G5 teams with good records (last year) that weren't ranked.

Quote:We haven't beaten a P5 team in three years under Fleck.

Well, ignoring the 1st year as we didn't beat any teamS that year of any sort, in post-1st-season of 2 years, Purdue was the only P5 that we could-have/should-have beat (that Central crushed that year). Other than that, VA-Tech, MSU, and Ohio State aren't ones we would have beat under any of our past coaches. One good thing about Cubit, to counteract disappointing losses in-conference, was that when facing what would be a 5-7 or worse "blah" P5 team, we'd pick up a win here and there.

Quote:Oh so now there are stipulations for beating a Top 25 team...

Yeah, apparently if we (being solidly unranked G5 team) beats a ranked team #20-#25, it "doesn't count" in the last couple games of the season, because they'll be not ranked right after with the season's end. So "beating a ranked team" at the end of the season (usually) has to be within the Top 20, not 25. 03-wink
