"Mike Norvell’s contract with the University of Memphis is a five-year deal that will pay him $1.8 million in his first year, according to a memo of understanding released by the university Tuesday afternoon.

The contract, which includes a $500,000 buyout and a salary pool of $2.51 million for assistant coaches, escalates annually. It will pay him $1.86 million in 2017, $1.92 million in 2018 and $1.98 million in 2019. Portions of the contract will be renegotiated in the fifth and final year, according to the memo.

In total, the contract will pay Norvell $9.54 million through December 31, 2020.

Norvell will also be eligible to receive to-be-announced annual performance incentives for win totals, academic progress rate benchmarks and individual coaching honors."

Better than having Dickey at a cheaper price. Memphis did what they had to do. A certain other program will soon find out why they ponied up for the right guy. The alternative is more costly.
So basically this coach gets all of Memphis's AAC media deal money.

Yep could be a bargain or we might have over paid. Time will tell.

I dont have a good read. Nobody ever hired an awful coach.

This -- also shows a commitment to football 04-bow
... That is a significant investment on the part of the University of Memphis, especially in a first-time head coach...

...President David Rudd and athletic director Tom Bowen are sending a clear message that they’re invested in the success of football and that they’ll do whatever it takes, whether it’s bigger salaries or better facilities, to ensure that...

I bet a 6-pack it's mostly booster money.

Memphis has a good assistant coach in David Johnson. He is basically a recruiting coach, but the players really do love him (talked to two players today who said so). Even though David is with the 'enemy' I do wish him all the success possible. He is a quality person and I think he will do great for y'all.

About double where we started Fuente 4 years ago. Also about double what Norvell was making at ASU as OC. Definitely making an investment that we hope pays off. It certainly did with Fuente. Let's hope we keep it going.

Hell, we pay Pastner $2.65M. You want him? We'll trade him for a few football recruits.

You should bet for something of more value --- not that quo vadis has anything like that. 03-wink
