That would cause some chaos across the street, which inevitably would cause chaos over here.
Maybe not. Should C-USA lose 2, they should just sit at 12.

+1
Yeah, I don't think there is any reason they would want to go to 14. UAB comes back and they sit at 12. Less money split and the TV plan was faulty when they started expanding.

To me that's the obvious reaction, might make the divisions a bit messier but doubt that's big enough deal to scurry into expansion mode.

...especially if 1 of the schools they lose is UTEP. The MWC would be doing CUSA a favor, geographically.
Is it automatic they'd take 2 from Coosa?

I believe they would since it seems the new TV contract isn't going to be as fruitful as before.
UTEP and Rice
I could see them taking a combination of UTEP, NMSU, UTSA, and Rice. Heck, with Idaho back on the up, they may even attempt to work their way in. For NMSU and Idaho's sakes, I hope they both get looks. I really want something local for them to lineup for both their athletes and their fans. Both schools and fanbases deserve that.
If this happens, don't be surprised if C-USA takes TXST. Or, in a less likely scenario, the Belt starts wining and dining the powers that be at UTSA successfully.

I would have thought TXST last year. But they aren't exactly looking particularly fetching right now.

Personally, I'm not convinced CUSA would expand . . . . Even if they lost 2.

But IF they did, I doubt they'd take TX ST . . . . .

as to UTSA coming to the Belt . . . . Ain't happening, they be very happy in CUSA, and they already turned down a Belt invite when the WAC imploded . . . .

.... . . .noticed that did ya?
IF the MWC takes two, CUSA won't expand. They'll have no point in doing that now, especially if their money drops a bit like predictions are saying.
The Big 12 expansion is still on the horizon as well. Which means the AAC would be back filling. No telling how all this will shake down. Could result in more FCS move ups, CUSA getting picked apart from above and below,or a complete reshaping of the G5.

I hope that's what would happen, but they didn't do this the last time they lost two Texas teams. C-USA lost Houston and SMU just a few years ago, and even though they still had a presence in Texas with Rice and UTEP, they promptly filled in their losses with UTSA and UNT. My guess is that they'd seek TXST and ULL, a school near Texas and also offering the chance to double-down in recruit-rich Louisiana.

I'd love to be wrong, of course. I wwould like for the schools in this league to have the chance to develop their programs and get on an equal footing with the MAC and C-USA on the field. There is no reason that our league cannot be every bit as good on the field as those two leagues, if not the MWC as well, in the next 3-5 years. That can't be possible, though, if the league is being depleted of teams every 2-3 years.

La Tech fans would probably riot if they added Texas state and ULL. I think they'll stick at 12 in such a case. If Rice is indeed considering leaving, it probably means the TV contract isn't very pretty.
If the Belt has to call up more FCS, I'm sort of on board with Jacksonville State after seeing their improved facilities tonight.

I know USA and Troy would hate it, but I think they could provide some OOC wins for us.

This. CUSA seems to be taking teams based upon last years' record. Texas State would be a bit of a draw, but with UNT and UTSA still in the conference (along with La Tech), do they really need another Texas team?

They might..and Texas State (and ULL) would go, immediately if asked. That's our worst case scenario. It would hurt, but 'meh'. I suppose using the CUSA media markets plus the 'you did better last year than expected, lets rush to take you' metric, perhaps it might be Georgia State and Texas State? Doubtful.

But I think they just say bye to UTEP (which isn't a legitimate travel partner for anyone in CUSA - they're over 500 miles from San Antonio) and Rice (which is the only private left in CUSA) and just get more compact and stay at 12.

We aren't poaching any teams if CUSA gets raided. The perception issue is still there. And more importantly, our crappy TV deal.
