Quote:Tulane athletic director Troy Dannen interviewed two candidates for the open football coaching job Wednesday and plans to talk to at least three more Thursday, sources confirmed to The Advocate.
One of the men he will interview Thursday is Georgia Southern coach Willie Fritz, a source said, but the identity of the others is unclear in what has been a tight-lipped search.

Too Lame . . . Look at Willie. . . . Gettin' ready to ride the Green Wave . . .
Dayum, he must really want the hell out of there.

I am thinking the same thing...if he is willing to interview for that then he must be trying to find the door

At his age, you probably take any higher-paying job you can find, even if it's at a dead-end media market team job like Tulane.
Side note, but I would be insulted if we had a coach attempting to leave for Tulane. That program is a mess. They may have money, but it's a multi year rebuild in a conference that is hard to win.
It looks like Fritz realizes his window of opportunity is narrowing because of his age and he is looking wherever to cash in

I'd be more offended by a piss poor attempt at playing a football game.
OH WAIT I SAW THAT LAST WEEKEND.
Could be using it to get more money from GS.
I've always noticed that when Fritz is doing a regional/national interview he throws out these talking points that sound like he's interviewing for a job. "As a head coach for 19 years, when we have rushed for 200 yards I've won 90% of the games. " It seemed a bit odd, but it's clear he is taking the next job that gives him a bump.
It's perfectly fine that he wants a job that pays more, but he should be more discreet about it. The story being told now is that he wants the hell out and that will hurt him in his current job. If the team thinks he is trying to bolt, it can kill the morale.
Do a better job of lying Willie! Don't let people think you wanted out until you are already gone.

That won't work.
I do not see us paying a head coach over 600 or 650 K right now. If that is not enough so be it. We will find a good replacement
UGA was rated the number one job in the country in terms of being able to recruit athletes. The state of GA is loaded and we are positioned well being close to central fl and Jax. We are 3 hrs from Atlanta, 2.5 from Jax and 5 from Central Fl. There may not be a better situation than that anywhere.
Bottom line is if Fritz leaves, we will have coaches tripping over themselves to get the GS job. We will be able to get a better coach than Fritz since we are fully FBS and have a little more money than a couple of years ago.

That's a really bad move. Georgia Southern is a better job than the dead end job at Tulane. I understand where the Sun Belt fits into the scheme of FBS teams. But Tulane sucks. Seriously, in their best season in a decade, they lost at home to a USA team that didn't bowl.
I'm betting he is trying to get his stock up for when he actually does leave.
I won't shed a tear if he jumps ship though.
I asked this a month ago, who has Fritz beaten at GS?
