I also would love to see what he could accomplish at ECU as he has been a winner since his playing days at Appalachian and ECU could use some of that mojo.

Also, being an App fan you didn't have to worry about the coach being hired away for many many years, so this is new.

Coaches owe nobody nothing...and nobody owes them anything. Nature of the business unfortunately.

App is a great program and will have no issues attracting candidates when required.

Tell that to Georgia Southern fans, or better yet, ask why they faded into obscurity after a relatively dominant run through the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's.

This is FBS, a whole different coaching market. Plus App does not have all the restrictions on what sort of offensive system you can run.

I just can't imagine App not being an appealing job for a lot of candidates.

Hatcher and BVG were great candidates. Prior to coming to Statesboro, both had tremendous resumes. Neither turned into what we wanted.
I can see Fritz taking a bigger payday at Tulane due to his age, but quite frankly I would be disappointed with Satterfield if he didn't stick around at App until a better opportunity than Tulane came along, again due to his age. Win at App for anothe two years and the SEC or ACC will probably come calling.

No quarterback on App's roster right now would be efficient in running a pro-style offense or an Air-raid, or a version of what Southern runs. It would be silly considering Satterfield finally got his guys in the right plays only a year and a half ago.

FBS is a different coaching market, yes, but App still isn't able to compete financially with most other schools who have less success from a macro standpoint, i.e. Louisiana.

Now you can take that tumble in FCS, similar to an Alabama or Michigan in FBS, but as a team one or two years out of transition status, losing seasons could be disastrous as you try to build up the financial resources to compete.

This is a real bizarro world conversation.

I have confidence that App and GaSo will navigate coaching change ok....even if they don't.

He was responding to my question. Now if Satterfield leaves, I imagine App would have Shawn Elliot and a few others from the former coaching staff that left to fill his place. I just don't know that it is an ideal situation with so many players returning yet again.

For Tulane or ECU? The only mention for him at Tulane was a writer tweeting out 3 names as possible candidates. The fact that he didn't even mention Fritz who we know has interviewed makes me question his credibility.

I would argue that BVG was not a good hire on paper. Didn't do well at his only HC stop before 2006.

Our fans who liked the hire only liked it because he coached in the NFL and was a "defensive-minded coach".

Because we had an idiot AD that fired a .700+ winning coach and hired a name and set the program on fire. With a competent AD we were right back where we belonged. If not for and all time NDSU FCS run we likely have one more NC. I dont think we will be going with a name hire anytime soon or ever.

Hatcher yes, BVG was a name hire. All he proved is that he did well with elite talent on defense but had nothing on his resume that said he could coach a team. If I am driving a Ferrari I expect to beat most Mustangs as well. His arrogance and lack of leadership is suited for at best a DC position. He has no idea how to mold a team around the players you have. Foster won the Payton at QB the year after he left.
I have been told the contract deadlock is over size of buyout. We are trying to significantly increase the buyout and Fritz is balking. We have offered a raise which would make Fritz the 2nd highest paid coach in the Sun Belt. Stay tuned

I had a feeling it might come down to the details and not the amount. TK is not an idiot and Fritz knows about what we can realistically pay or why even bother trying to extend. He is wise to get all he can, coaches get raises for not even trying to interview when jobs pop open. I am sure if it comes down to buy out something can get worked out.
