I'm hearing that the first game back in 2017 will be against the Florida Gators.

I will say this. This won't be a bunch of 18 year olds the gators will see. On paper this has the potential to be a pretty surly bunch

Where did you hear this from? I had a hunch we would be playing Florida but didn't think it would be the first game of the season.

I think it's Alabama A&M but yea since the cat is out of the bag we do play Florida.

By Labor Day of 2017, UAB's football team will have had the 2015 JUCO SD, the Feb.3rd 2016 NSD, 2016 spring & fall practices, the 2016 JUCO SD and Feb.2017 high school recruiting NSD, the 2017 spring and fall practices. That is a lot of new talent coming in and only beating up on themselves before ever facing an outside competitor. I hope we will look like we know what we are doing for that first game against a team probably coming off another bowl game season and MAYBE an NCAA championship playoff.

The Florida game has been pretty much known, the Marino kid tweeted that we were playing them a while back.

Yeah I knew they wanted us to go there because they last came to us.

My family of 4 will fly from Los Angeles to wherever we end up playing our first game back. If it is that crappy university in gainesville, florida, so be it. I had my worst ever traveling experience when we played there years ago (2004?). Absolute worst set of fans I have ever been around - just damned rude people down there.

May not be AM but that is what I keep hearing. Never seen it this tight lipped. As far as Troy it's not so much that as it is they need a home game and that is what they are looking for regardless the opponent.

Florida is an intriguing game, but I hope we don't open up with it. I'd prefer to open with a winnable home game.

I think opening with a winnable home Game is the way to go
