USF
1. Most improved/surprise player on your team?
> Q. Flowers - not a coincidence that we started winning when the game slowed down for him.

2. Biggest disappointment?
> Kicker Emilio Nadleman - disappointed in his performance early in the year...may have cost us the Memphis game

3. Best win?
> Temple - easily beat the division champion

4. Worse loss?
>Maryland - there were big plays that could have been made to win this game but it was an all around failure

5. What recruit made the biggest impact?
> Chris Barr - probably not on every Bulls fan list...but the kid's speed opened up the passing game

6. Offensive MVP?
> Marlon Mack - kid is primed for a potential Doak Walker run next year as Junior

7. Defensive MVP?
> Armando Sanchez - again not every Bulls fans will agree but he stabilized the middle of the defense and played a vital, role in leading a USF defense with lots of young, first time players

8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations?
> over performed. I expected 5-6/6-6/maybe 7-5.....eight wins and chance to go for 9 in a bowl game with a very young roster was a big surprise for lots of folks

9. What are early expectations for next year?
> Win AAC East with a chance to represent the AAC in an access bowl. Almost all of USF's best players were all underclassmen this year

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere?
Not going anywhere...unless USF makes a Houston-like run but with a better schedule.

1. Most improved/surprise player on your team?
I'll say Corey Seargent everyone else was kinda where I expected they would be
2. Biggest disappointment?
Obviously Benkert tearing his knee up 1 1/2 weeks before the first game.
3. Best win?
VT
4. Worse loss?
Despite the fact that they were the best of the teams we lost to down the stretch I'm gonna say Temple. Had multiple chances to put the game away late but a bad int by Kemp, a bad fumble in plus territory by Scott, giving up a 50 yard pass on 2nd and 25, and having 2 punts blocked within the last 4 minutes is insanely bad.
5. What recruit made the biggest impact?
Corey Seargent
6. Offensive MVP?
Isaiah Jones
7. Defensive MVP?
Zeek Bigger
8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations?
Way underperformed my original pre-Benkert injury expectations, slightly underperformed my post-Benkert injury expectations, but massively underperformed my mid season expectations
9. What are early expectations for next year?
Can't really say till I see who the new coach is and how much roster turnover there is. With the right coach and and minimal roster turnover 8-9 wins and at least competing for the division title. Wrong coaching hire and/or massive roster defections anything is possible.
10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere?
Clearly was on the hot seat.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere?

1. Brandon Wilson
2. Injuries. OL and RB were absolutely decimated beyond the norm.
3. Temple for the AAC Championship/NY6 bid
4. UConn
5. Kameron Eloph
6. Greg Ward
7. Elandon Roberts
8. Overperformed, but not by much. We were favored in every game except UL, but we ran well in a couple spots where the game could have easily gone the other way. (Memphis, Cincy)
10. Arguably the most sought after coach in the country. I'll be a huge UT fan next year.
1. Most improved/surprise player on your team? Kip Patton and Austin Jones

2. Biggest disappointment? I expected a bit more out of Robby Anderson, but he had a fine season. I expected more sacks out of Martin-Oguike. I would say S Alex Wells was the most disappointing player on the team

3. Best win? Penn State

4. Worse loss? Notre Dame and Houston for impact.

5. What recruit made the biggest impact? For FR and R-FR, Kip Patton and Ventell Bryant

6. Offensive MVP? Jahad

7. Defensive MVP? Tyler

8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations? Over-perform

9. What are early expectations for next year? I think 8-4 is reasonable. Don't think we lose more than 5, but I think we could win 9 or 10.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere? I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon
1. Most improved/surprise player on your team?

I think I have to go with Bryce Williams. His production was middle of the road, but I put the more of the OC and losing the QB than anything else. I wish he had another year.

2. Biggest disappointment?

OC Nichols. It was clear he was a failure at multiple points during the season when he left Summers in despite the fact that he couldn't move the offense. I don't think Nichols had a firm grasp on the spread attack, nor how to use Summers as a change of pace QB instead of a replacement.

3. Best win?

Hard to say. I'll go with Tulsa because it was a game that took the offense and defense. The offense played through rotating QB's fairly well, and the defense set the tone with the pick-6 to start the game. Best game for the development of the team was probably UCF. I know they absolutely stunk it up this year, but it was a good exercise for Kemp to be able to have time, make the reads and progressions and distribute the ball. Shame it wasn't earlier in the year.

4. Worse loss?

UCONN - Complete blowout and didn't look anything like and ECU team on the field. Summers played too long, Kemp was forced to throw late which lead to more turnovers, defense quit.

A close second was the Temple and USF games. ECU was in a position to win both, and lost primarily because of not being able to execute offensively late in the game. OC didn't know when to make the QB change.

5. What recruit made the biggest impact?

I'll go with Shaun Furlow RB. He was a solid contributor as a Freshman and will be a nice change of pace for Anthony Scott that should be the lead RB next year.

6. Offensive MVP?

None I guess Kemp by default. He struggled at times, especially early in the season, but played very well under the circumstances. Even when ECU wasn't scoring, he was able to move the offense unlike Summers.

7. Defensive MVP?

Bigger/Overton/Stanley. Those three kept ECU in most every game with the exception of UCONN.

8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations?

Even given the QB disaster 10 days before the seasons started, I would say drastically under achieved. 3 point loss to Cincy, 5 point loss to USF, 7 point loss to BYU, 7 point loss to UF, 10 point loss to Temple. Most of those games decided by two to three plays. Tempered expectations should have been 7 wins, finishing with 5 was a disaster.

9. What are early expectations for next year?

Depends on the HC and OC. I expect ECU to be near the top of the conference in rushing with Scott and Furlow in the backfield. 2016 was loaded for a second year offense under Nichols with Benkurt having a year under his belt and Jones as a senior. NC State, VT, and USC all on the schedule. Good news is VT and USC are undergoing massive changes as well and we play them early. With the right coach that doesn't completely change the offense ECU should compete in all of those games and I expect ECU to be 2-2 or better entering conference play.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere?

He should have been on the hotseat, but his loyalty to assistants cost him his job already. Our AD is absolutely on the hot seat. He has to nail this hire, and has to do it in a more professional manner than he fired Ruff and addressed the players. He will be a lame duck next year, with a new Chancellor coming in June.

My top candidates for new HC: Lincoln Riley, Scottie Montgomery, Bud Foster
We lost so bad we're bringing the Oregon offense to Florida. Season = Success.

As a long time GOL supporter, I was sad to see things end this way, but he was clearly done, and wanted to be after the Fiesta on a high note. Either way, I have faith in Frost delivering.

1. The fact that Hayden Moore is ready to take over
2. Kiel's interceptions
3. Miami Hurricanes
4. Nothing awful.... @USF I guess
5. Everyone redshirts here, so have to cheat and say Moore
6. Shaq Washington or the whole OLine
7. lol Mouhon I guess, disaster
8. Under perform, but I will admit the schedule proved tougher than we expected too
9. 8 wins, 2nd place in AACEast
10. HOT

Bottom line, we won our 7 easiest games and lost our 5 hardest. Lame season. Too many turnovers. Lost every close game.

1. Anthony Miller, FR WR became our go-to guy.
2. Our defense
3. Ole Miss
4. Houston
5. Miller
6. Paxton Lynch
7. Genard Avery, MLB
8. About what we expected. Most fans predicted 8 or 9 wins.
9. Hard to say with new staff and new QB. Lots of other returnees, though. 6-8 wins, maybe.
10. Coach just got here. Not going anywhere for awhile.
1. Most improved/surprise player on your team? I'm going to say Sargent. He came in and was immediately our best corner. Our secondary really struggled as a whole but he was a bright spot for us.

2. Biggest disappointment? I'm going to go with our offensive line and running game. We had a veteran unit coming back on the O-line and a stable of good running backs. We did have a new coach but I really thought we would be an even more balanced team this year that could throw and run effectively. We really struggled all year and it made us very one dimensional and made it more challenging on our QB's.

3. Best win? Virginia Tech with Tulsa being a close 2nd.

4. Worse loss? I'll go with Temple as I think this was the start of the downward spiral of our team. We had a prime time game against a ranked opponent and led for 3 quarters but could not put them away with costly penalties and turnovers. We were never the same again after that game.

5. What recruit made the biggest impact? Sargent and Bowden

6. Offensive MVP? Another poster said this but I too am going with Kemp. People keep talking about losing Benkert but if you look at Kemp he actually did pretty well this year. He did turn the ball over a lot but that was also due to having no run support for most of the season and being completely one dimensional. Also our QB situation in general was handled very poorly by our OC down the stretch.

7. Defensive MVP? I'll say Zeek Bigger.

8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations? Under-perform. This team showed early in the season that we had the talent and could compete with some good teams but yet again we fluttered down the stretch. Our OC was a huge disappointment to me as well as our new O-line coach. I expected a dropoff from last year but I didn't expect us to play several games being completely inept on offense, especially when it was clear that Kemp was our best option at QB.

9. What are early expectations for next year? With what we have coming back a competent coach should be able to get us to around 8 wins. Obviously there is always a learning curve and the players will have to buy in but I do think we have some pieces to work with. The key will be our O-line which graduates quite a few guys.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Clearly he was. I was surprised at the move initially but after a day of removing my personal feelings for Ruff who is a great guy, and looking at it objectively, it was the right move to make.
With the end of the regular season now upon us, let's look back at the highs and lows...

1. Most improved/surprise player on your team?
Was not expecting Paxton Lynch to play as great as he did

2. Biggest disappointment?
Defense

3. Best win?
Ole Miss

4. Worse loss?
Hmph, Take your pick of Houston, Temple, or Navy. All were pathetic ways to lose a football game

5. What recruit made the biggest impact?
We really didn't use alot of freshman. Maybe Ja'Marius Henderson, but he might transfer because of losing Fuente.

6. Offensive MVP?
Paxton Lynch

7. Defensive MVP?
Genard Avery
e
8. Did your team under or under perform based on pre-season expectations?
We were picked to when the West, so I would say we underperformed to say the least.

9. What are early expectations for next year?
Depends on Quaterback play. I would say 6-6 or 8-4 depending on it.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere?
No. Fuente was hired away and we have a new coach in Mike Norvell. P5 is a hope for us.
1. Most improved/surprise player on your team? Tre'Quan Smith. This freshman will be a star by the time he's done at UCF.

2. Biggest disappointment? Everyone giving up. When you're losing by 40-50 points every game it's pretty clear you're just going through the motions to get the season over with.

3. Best win? Hiring Danny White & Scott Frost. They've brought energy and enthusiasm to the program that was severely lacking.

4. Worse loss? O'Leary's legacy. Hitt should have let him retire after the Fiesta Bowl so he could go out a UCF legend.

I'm gonna skip a few

9. What are early expectations for next year? Hope to see cooler, more exciting brand of football that will be attractive to recruits and to our young alumni base.

10. Is your coach on the hot seat? Likely target for a P5? Not going anywhere? New coach and very different system, he should get a few years to get it in place. If he's successful everyone seems to think he'll be the next HC at Nebraska
1. Surprise is Kip Patton, idk about most improved but I'll give PJ Walker much improved

2. Getting so close to that Notre Dame win, defense was just gassed at the end and couldn't finish

3. Penn State

4. Houston because of bowl implications

5. Ventell Bryant

6. Jahad Thomas

7. Matakevich

8. Probably over-performed however a lot of fans expected a breakout year

9. 9-3 (2nd in AAC East)

10. P5? Not anymore 02-13-banana

So did O'Leary go out on good terms?

Sounds like he may resentful that Hitt made/pressured him to stay. With that said, he could have easily retired last season and he likely would have had his hand-picked successor, Key, takeover without too much commotion.

I believe he is totally resentful. GOL wanted to retire after the Fiesta bowl. Our president convinced him to stay. To be pushed out midseason by the same person that twisted your arm to stay.....leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

HOWEVER, that being said...... I'm glad it went down as it did or else we would not have Frost. If he retired after the the Fiesta win, we would be stuck with Brent Key right now, still losing or having very mediocre seasons. Our football program would be just like our basketball program.....$****** with no coach. Luckily that didn't happen.

Side note, Donnie Jones is finally on the clock. If there is no improvement with the basketball team, he is out after this season.

YES, you are right........ but we fell down to the bottom of the pit quickly and were handed a huge lifeline in Frost and White.

Basketball has been a consistent tumble that has taken forever to hit the bottom.

In actuality, the lightning speed football plummet may solve the basketball woes once and for all. Donnie Jones should have been fired a long time ago. Without the entire Athletic Dept revamp, the following would never be happening.
