Just a couple thoughts (this started as a comment in the bus thread but I thought I would move it to it's own thread as I expanded by thoughts):

1) A lot of credit to SF and the athletic department for arranging the buses to Detroit and I hope they sell out
2) In another thread we are all speculating on how many buses are available and how many are sold out - nobody knows at this time - if you have FACTS - please post and include the source
3) Realize the athletic department loses money on every bus. It will cost them more than $20/student for all that is included
4) For the OB a bunch of wealthy Alumni stepped up and funded the buses for the amount the university was losing - I am sure it is the same with this trip
5) I am old - but when I was at NIU we used to tailgate and then leave the tailgate and go back to the apartment and watch "real college football" on Channel 2/5/7
6) I never attended one football game when I was a student (hard to go when you lose almost every game) - For the last 10 seasons I have come back for at least one - and sometimes 4 games and I bring my family and neighbors - I wish I could attend more but I live far away and have family commitments. I wish we all could be season ticket holders - but we all have different priorities and different pulls on our time and money
7) Sometimes we need to look at the big picture - since I was there we have built the east side of the stadium, the Yorden, the Chesick, etc
8) There is no doubt NIU is making progress
9) I know we all want MORE progress and we want it FASTER
10) Let's say thanks for the hard work of SF and his team
11) let's say thanks to Novak and his team
12) Let's say thanks to all the coaches since Novak who made significant changes and improved the program
13) The bitterness on this board drives me nuts - we are all fans that want NIU to have more success
14) Every fan and student should do what they can to support NIU - If they can go to Detroit - AWESOME. If they can't (I am flying home from a business trip and will land at ORD at 5:00pm) then watch it on ESPN2 - ratings on TV help also.
15) If you have the resources - please support NIU (either academics or athletics) through monetary and time donations. If you don't want to, or can't, make monetary donations - that is fine - you are still part of the Huskie family!!!
16) Please stop the bitterness on this board

ok - I will get off my soap box now - just my 2 cents. I hope we all work together. However, I do like the vigorous debate - that is a sign of a committed and passionate fan base.

Huskies, come on you Huskies
and make a score or two

Huskies, you're Northern Huskies
the team to pull us through

Forward, together forward
there's victory in view

Come on you Huskies, Fight on you
Huskies and win for N.I.U.

Gotta agree... and by the way, thanks for adding in the fight song, think its one of the best around!
The buses in the past have been also funded by the SA and Alum Association along with what ever other sources.

For me - it's not just the "bitterness" on the board. It is also a problem when a handful of people continuously pick on & berate others for having a different opinion than their own. Many of those that call others "stupid" or "moron" just hide behind their anonymity & show zero respect for others. This is not a new problem. It has been an ongoing problem and one of the reasons I took a long break from the board last year. Of course I was ridiculed for posting the problem & the fact that I was taking the break by those same disrespectful ones.

We are all here because we are loyal Huskie fans. Can we PLEASE respect each other?

Great post! Some of the most passionate NIU fans hang out here and the Huskies need all of the fans they can get. We should respect and support each other.
