As it seems with the departure of CCU that the Big South is on life support, who will be the future teams invited to be in the BSC to ensure our survivability?

BIG SOUTH

4. Monmouth
5. Presbyterian
6. Kennesaw St.

Looks like not Jacksonville University, at least in the near term. http://jacksonville.com/sports/college/j...4.facebook

Rumors were that Campbell might make the jump.

With so many private schools could the Big South make scholarships optional and attract some of the non-scholarship programs?

Roka, it's really a poke in the eye to have to discuss LU's position of playing in the Big South. You guys get to play with the 1st level big boys, we get to discuss Campbell and Jax U providing scholarships. Something is out of wack here. And I'm glad we pasted you in the last Big South game. And good luck in the SBC. And you had better place emphasis on building support and attendance or your competitive/success time will take much longer.

I'm just responding with legitimate discussion to a post a Liberty fan created. No ill will intended. I'll just ignore the rest of the BS you posted because it doesn't matter and frankly I don't care.

No need to be defensive, just a little banter having beaten Coastal the last 2 years in what where almost banner years for the program. Regarding attendance and support, numbers don't lie and that seems your biggest challenge as you enter FBS, and that's no BS.
Ignoring the shots at Coastal, I would say that the primary focus of expansion has to be on the MEAC schools. There are a bunch of upset schools about pulling out of the FCS Playoffs who fit nicely in the Big South geographic footprint.

Not defensive - just telling you how it is. I've moved on past the Liberty / Coastal feud, onward and upward as they say.

The MEAC or Pioneer schools would be the best bet. But I've heard that there has been a lack of support for some of the MEAC schools from the current schools. Also, have heard that some of the schools against the Celebration Bowl may be warming up to the idea. I doubt any DII schools are a good solution due to the time it takes to move up.

Winthrop should have a decision soon on whether they will add football or not. Any other A-Sun schools closer to starting football? Perhaps a partnership with the NEC?

Again Roka, no fued and I'm not picking a fight. Sometimes keyboard text does not convey clear thoughts. There's not a LU/CCU fued as you mentioned moving on that I am aware of. I've said that I wish LU was becoming FBS like Coastal is. But it's clear that Coastal is not in the same position of App St and GaSo with fan attendance and support. That's not a fued, it's statistics and numbers and does not involve LU. Beginning next year and the year afterward, you'll be compared to App and GaSo and the other SBC teams. And lots of improvement/support needs to happen for CCU. No ill feelings, just a review of your departure from the Big South to the SBC.

As I've said before, I don't care about your analysis. It certainly isn't why I'm posting in this thread - I am interested in the future of the Big South however. Do you have anything to add pertaining to the topic of this thread?
I think the Big South will be fine. We haven't replaced VMI yet and now we will need to replace Coastal. If we invite a school or two from the southeast then we'll be fine. There shouldn't be a lack of schools who want to improve themselves and upgrade conferences. The Big South has to be an upgrade from somewhere right?
Kennesaw State and to a certain degree Monmouth were the replacements for VMI.

Delaware State has long been rumored to want into the Big South and they are our most likely next addition. But their relatively northern location has been the sticking point in the past primarily with the SC contingent. That contingent is growing smaller thanks the Sun Belt and the league is growing more desperate. Personally I believe if DSU gets in the door it would allow the Hamptons & NC A&Ts the perfect excuse to their old guard supporters that it is time for them to move as well. SC State is a mess financially in spite of their rich football history.
Since we currently have the northern, Monmouth in the BSC, I'd like to see Fordham in the BSC.

Do you see the affiliate members as long-term solutions? I believe Monmouth has 2 years left on their current contract and are hoping a CAA invite comes.
Nah, I don't think the affiliate members will stick around unless they have to. Just wishful thinking on my part. Not saying anyone is headed to the CAA, but who knows. The BSC certainly isn't doing itself any favors if it is not out actively recruiting new members, full time members. We are about to drop to 10 members for basketball and are already on life support for football. We can take up to 6 new full members and still have a viable and manageable conference. Seems like we could work some kind of merger out with the Atlantic Sun.

Come on, Rok. You of all people should understand that longterm solutions and the Big South should never be used in the same sentence.

Bring on the temporary fixes wherever they can be found.

I know there have been some rumors of a couple of A-Sun members starting football - any word on that? If you could get UNF or FGCU to add football and join that would be good.

Perhaps consider joining forces with the NEC?
I don't know how thrilled schools would be if two conferences merged. They would be combining two NCAA bids into one bid with more schools.

Good point. That is very true. In a perfect world we'd find a nice full conference to be part of.
