Honest questions here:

What does Fuente's leaving say about our potential inclusion into a P5 conference in the near future? Would he have left if he thought we were going to be P5 soon?

Is it possible the lack of IPF funds factored into his decision? Does that show a lack of commitment to the program by the fan base?

I'D SAY YES...HE IS LEAVING FOR A BETTER JOB

Is it possible the lack of IPF funds factored into his decision? NO Does that show a lack of commitment to the program by the fan base? NOT AT ALL
The Big 12 has been over for a while now.
That's my feeling, don't think we are going to the Big12 anytime soon. Now if they get left out of the playoffs once again, and aren't granted a ccg with 10 conference members, that could change real quick IMO.

Don't know if the ipf had much do with it, since I think the plans are still to break ground on it rather soon.

For the sake of argument, let's go ahead and put us in the Big-12

Where would you rather coach?

At Memphis in the Big 12

or

At VT in the ACC

It's a no brainer.
I think he showed this year that a final 4 possibility is still possible for AAC. Our conference is pretty good.....schedule well outside of conference, win, and you have a chance....

Very valid question.

In the Big 12 fighting Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, and OSU every year?

In the ACC, fighting Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and Miami every year?

Exactly. Vat is a better job today than Memphis regardless of conference. Coaches jump from one P5 school to another all the time...

VT has a pedigree of winning Memphis not so much, at least not at a national championship contender level.
It says we are a stepping stone job right now. I remember the old Metro days. We have been left to suck hind teet.
If we make a good hire who can build upon the success of the past two years, it may actually be good for our Big 12 chances that Fuente is leaving now. I'm sure it'll help our case if we can show continued success across multiple coaches. In that case it shows that the university is committed to big time football and the support and infastructure necessary to support it. Let's the world now that the last two years aren't just a product of one great coach but also a committed university.

The IPF didn't help any. I don't like it either..but VT is seen as a better job...and easier to win a conference title at.
Once you get past Clemson and Floriduh State...the rest of the teams kind of taper off in terms of talent.
Its all the money. 2.5 mil wasn't enough. It will interesting what VT pays? 3.5 mil or better?
I thought that we offered north of $3M? If not same on us.

No. Fuente weighed his options based on the here and now. VPI is in a better conference (perception) with more resources and easier path to sustained success.

Our program is in a much better situation than it was 5 years ago. Him leaving means nothing in regard to any future conference realignment.

I think the only thing you can discern is that there is not an invite already in hand.

Fuente leaving doesn't mean anything other than he got offered a really good job. VT is a good job. It is a much better job than Memphis. I love Memphis, but that's just how it is. When your at a job and you get offered a better one you take it.
They're trying really really hard to get in Big 12.
Getting in Big 12 was a factor. Not sure how that translates as of now.
