I really think we need to see what the search firm in Plano uncovers but here is another name that has a long MEMPHIS connection.

Clay Helton (born June 24, 1972) is an American football coach and former player. He is the interim head coach of the USC Trojans football team. He also serves as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He was hired to be the team's quarterbacks coach in 2010.[1] In 2013 he was promoted to offensive coordinator.[2] He served as the team's interim head coach during their bowl game after their previous interim head coach, Ed Orgeron, quit. On October 11, 2015, he once again became the interim head coach of the Trojans after head coach Steve Sarkisian took a leave of absence, and was then subsequently fired.[3]

Helton has also been a coach for Duke Blue Devils, Houston Cougars and Memphis Tigers. His father, Kim Helton, was a coach in college, the National Football League and the Canadian Football League from 1973-2011.
The problem with both Helton & Odom are that they are each being considered for the head job where they are & would not take a Memphis job until they knew. That likely would mean Memphis would be pushed to a 2nd round of hiring which would put Memphis 4-6 wks minimum behind the recruiting curve. Memphis can't afford to be behind & essentially lose a recruiting year. About this consulting firm, the implication is Memphis is the only program that knows about them, come on guys....
We need the new coach in here before Fuente's seat gets cold. Days not weeks.

I think it is more about....they know some thing we don't know. Like...who is available.
If Clay Helton never coached here would he be on the list? Probably not...

I agree that quick is important, but getting it RIGHT is more important. Sometimes you can't have it both ways. I spent at least 35 years of my engineering career trying to get that across to thick-headed managers. As for Helton, the only thing I remember about him was that he received a great deal of criticism from our "experts" while he was here.

HoopDreams hated Helton almost as much as he hates Pastner.
Pat Haden is hoping that Clay Helton can win the USC job on his own. Really likes him. At least that is what I have read anyway.

Same for Odom. At least on the message board lists. We don't know who is on the actual lists.

Like Odom?

Why does this matter if they're good coaches?
The bubble screen king?

Hell to the no.
