Question:

Just saw that the Lamar Redskins (um err, Texans) will be playing Dickinson at NRG stadium at 2pm Saturday and Strake is playing Manvel there Friday night at 8pm. Between these two games and the Rice game, which will have the lowest attendance? Sadly, I suspect it will be where J. Fred used to say isn't it a great day for OUTDOOR football.
I'm hoping that the team from the first half of the season shows up (who would have ever said that after game six) and gives us an easy win over Charlotte. I would like to see the seniors and the coaching team get one final win before they move on to the next stage of their lives.
I think J. Fred went to Lamar so he might have had a hard time deciding whether to go the Rice or the Lamar game if he was still alive. Lamar might win out because they had a better season but he might have been already committed to announcing the Rice game. As I remember J. Fred, he would not have liked the Lamar mascot change. He was as interested in history as he was in Rice sports.

BTW, the Cherokee woman who used to be in charge of Delmar stadium did not like the Lamar mascot change. She said they had been the Indians forever. She went to Reagan and she hates the proposal to change that name because it was named for the Confederate postmaster general. She mentioned that Dan Rather told the school board that he would yank the scholarship that he gave each year to a Reagan student if the name was changed. I went to Westbury and I am putting up with the mascot change from Rebels to Huskies. The old alumni are still Rebels and we can let the pathetic football and scholastics go under the new Husky mascot. I just hope they do not change the name of Albert Sidney Johnston Middle School.
The HISD is losing its connection to its former students.

If the high school games draw 3,000, they will have higher attendance.
Lamar has done a half-assed name change....on the walls of the gym it still says "'Skins will win!"....just like it always has.

If I were on the "Shirts" team, I wouldn't be happy ....
I'm not going to the game (first one I will miss this season) but I'll be curious if any underclassmen are now classified as seniors for this game (guys in the category of say an Alex Lyons - a 4th year junior now listed as a senior). If anyone can report in on that group later, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I think if DB lets the Sr's get most of the playing time, then we will kick Charlotte's behind.

Case in point. I want to see Bob all over the field. I want him in the starting backfield. I want to see him in the slot. I want to see him on the wing. I want to see him in the Wild Owl. I mean, where has he been all season? The more Bob, the better!

Actually, that is a very good question, how many of the RS Jr's will graduate and leave this year?

And will we have any 5th year seniors next year?

No matter what happens, we are going to have some very big holes on the OL and DL to fill next year. I expected that our nose dive was going to be next year, not this year.

I would not be surprised to see some leave if DB and his coaching staff comes back. If realistically you wont be playing on Sunday, why come back if you have your degree and can go make some money. Come back and play for those coaches. IMO we don't have more transfers because of the RICE DEGREE
Went to Tech UT game on Thursday. Wild exciting game. Very young team with more talent than in prior years. They would be crazy to fire Strong as Mack left him a mess. Chronicle had an article talking about this senior class rated as number 2, with virtually no contributors and a bunch who ended up being tossed.

Real point of this post was to note that my guess is that there were less than 200 students plus the full band of course.

I don't think we have many, if any, who would be able to leave and start making money on Sunday like Covington. I would expect that we may have some who can leave and start making money Monday through Friday, and it would not surprise me if some did.
Welcome to Rivalry Week. Does this mean that our "rival" is Charlotte?
Seniors listed by the game notes:

Nick Elder, Zach Espinosa, James Farrimond, Garrett Fuhrman, Driphus Jackson, Stuart Mouchantaf, Dennis Parks, Grant Peterson, John Poehlmann, Ryan Pollard, Andrew Reue, Spencer Stanley, Luke Turner, Chandler Watkins, Caleb Williams and Ross Winship.
Congratulations to the Srs.
Looking at that list..it represents a whole lot of playing time on the team this year

I don't think we lose much on DE if Schantz comes back healthy, Brown and Womac come back, but disappointed to see Peterson on the list, thought he had one more year at DE after injury this season. DJ and Parks are big losses on offense but they've been plagued by injuries lately, same with Mouchantaf who was never really a big factor. Abercrumbia, Gordon, Thompson are talented DT's who could become the key to our defense. The first two were true freshmen who showed flashes, while Gordon made improvements and got bigger. Lyons will anchor a LB group with lots of experience (McGaskey, Ellerbee). The secondary will most likely remain below average, but I like what we have at CB, with Banks, Bickham on the outside and Blasingame. at RB we're fine. OL will lose a couple of key players but there's big young bodies to work with and Anderson will only get better. TE and WR will be OK. We don't have a lot of speed at WR, but Wright will lead a group of 4 or 5 capable receivers with some experience and good size. There's enough to work with, but of course, QB is the key position, and it's a major concern.

I'm already preparing for hearing next year being called a rebuilding year.
