....obviously he's known this was coming. If he's been doing what ADs are supposed to do he should just about have the new head football coach hired.
Eh maybe. It's important to get the right guy. The program is trending in the right direction; let's not screw that up.

it's also important not to waste a recruiting class screwing around. If Bowen isn't an idiot he already knows the 2-3 that he wants to get and has already started negotiations. Get it on or off the pot and get a coach in here. There should have to be ZERO time spent wondering who he wants and if they are willing to come here; that leg work should already be in the rear view mirror.
Its also important not to talk publicly about it.
It sounds like Odom has been the guy for several weeks, but the Missouri situation has thrown a monkey wrench into our plans. What concerns me is that we wait around too long for Odom (i.e. Missouri) to make a decision before moving on to other candidates.

Why not? The news will get leaked soon enough just like Fuente.

The fact that we're not hearing anything leads me to believe Bowen has not done nearly enough on this. Was he sitting around wringing his hands like RC did when X was 'on the fence"?
Rest assured, the band that brought us Fuente is getting back together.
I'm just not much on Bowen.
Missouri is likely in a huge cluster as far as their search is concerned. Would they even be able to hire Odom at this point? He may not want to be a part of tha fiasco.

Sounds like we will go after Odom, or perform a similar search like we did the last time.

We have the added benefit of a solid team, with an excellent QB in the wings, and there was talk of a playoff spot this year. Thats light years better than we were 4 years ago. The cabinet isnt bare. Hell 4 years ago, we didnt even have much of a cabinet.

You aren't alone in that opinion. Still a massive upgrade.

Well they better effing hustle up. If they take even 4-6 weeks to pick their man the recruiting class will be unsalvageable and the current players will just be floating along in limbo under some bs athletic dept personnel.

If Fuente quits 11/30 then 12/1 would be perfect to bring in the new guy.

Like I said this should be old news to Bowen. If he's just now firing up the search machinery the eff him.

For the same reason you dont talk publicly about hiring any position; nothing good comes by talking about it. Only bad press.

The fact that you are not hearing anything about this means we've got a group that can keep their damned mouths shut, and ensure everyone in the athletic department keeps their mouths shut.

If you want anything in the public, you perform a controlled leak. Thats it. Otherwise you will become the punching bag for any writer who wants to poke fun at a school.

If you would feel better that Bowen gets up there, taps his left jacket pocket and says "he's got a list", then fine. But you can see how nothing good came from that.

We know he has a list. When talks get serious leaks happen. It's just too easy these days with all the social media / internet access.

That may be the noise we're hearing on Odom. That may be the deal.

The current situation is one giant cluster, due to the number of programs, or rumored programs, that may have openings. Yesterday, Herman was going to SC unless his wife didnt like it there or if Herman didnt like the AD. Now he's withdrawn from the job. That may be because Kirby Smart is interested in SC again. Smart was interested in SC until Georgia got interesting. Now Georgia may not happen, so Smart may be back in at SC. And Herman may have been contacted by other better schools. It is really fluid.

It is a giant cluster. And there wont be any clarity until after Saturday, when the top jobs fill out. And in that shuffle, other big jobs may open up.

There are and will be so many openings that old names are going to get another chance. Someone is going to take Orgeron and Nutt. Kiffin will be hired. Those are almost givens, because there arent going to be enough quality G5 head coaches, or proven quality P5 OC's / DC's to fill the positions this year.

If Memphis activates the same search committee they had last time, when the finalists were Fuente and McElwain, we're in good hands.

Yeah, but how long did it take them last time? Was it after the reg. season ended? I can't remember...

It's too fluid to have someone already picked out. I really don't think that is the best option either to lock yourself into a guy without evaluating the other guys.

Porter was fired on Nov 27, after the last game of the season. Fuente was hired Dec 7th.
If it's Odom then then Bowen et al won't waste any time after Fuente makes it official. Get our coach in place before everyone else and get a jump start on recruiting.

After spending some time this afternoon doing some reading on Odom, I think he's our guy....unless Missouri makes him their guy.
Wow, a lot of folks are still suffering from post-traumatic RC syndrome.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that our current athletic director is doing a pretty good job, and might deserve the benefit of the doubt.
