Virginia Tech – Leaving: Frank Beamer. Arriving: The Dash is betting the mortgage on Memphis coach Justin Fuente, and betting that it happens quickly next week. Word is that athletic director Whit Babcock has his man, and has for a while now, and Fuente is that man. He’s done a remarkable job at previously moribund Memphis, going 18-6 over the past two seasons. It’s possible that tumbling dominoes at LSU and points elsewhere (namely Florida State) unspring this, but unlikely. A Fuente hiring would also keep Rich Rodriguez in place at Arizona.

That might explain some things.
If this is true thanks JF for the ride, now let's go get Bill Clark or Odum. And fire Galen in the process.
fuente phoning it in? it can't be, and I refuse to believe it.

Agree with part of this sentiment...I have nothing but great appreciation for what Coach Fuente has done for our program. He should be given a tremendous send off and our best wishes for the future, if this is true.

Not sold on Bill Clark, however.
There are better jobs open than Va Tech, and I doubt he would jump for that job before seeing the entire coaching carousel scenario.
We haven't had a football coach hired away from us in over 40 years...I'm not real sure how to react. I know it hasn't happened yet, but it stings and is kinda cool at the same time.

That's a pretty good job although following a legend isn't great.
I wonder if he brings Scott with him as his D coordinator?
Clark would set us back four years.

middle of the pack ACC team, only relevant while Beamer was there, as you say a legend. So far away from CJF's recruiting base, it seems odd.
Nice take on the coaching carousel from SVP at ESPN:

The Coaching Carousel
I agree. I don't get leaving for that job. He could do better.

It's a better job than a lot of people think. He'll be able to compete in the ACC. The facilities are top-notch. And Virginia Tech has shown that they'll stick with their coach.

Strike while the iron is hot...

Fuente may not feel he can continue the current level of success the program is experiencing.
Can't keep a coach you want. Can't get rid of a coach you don't want. SMH

Based on what?
I hate it if true, but Fuente would kill it there.

For those claiming that VTech is a "bid-teir ACC team", they were winning a minimum of 10 games per year in the Beamer heyday and won the ACC outright multiple times.

Lately, UNC and Duke have been winning the Coastal division.... in football. There's a huge void there to be filled. The recruiting base in VA is decent enough to build from and there's hardly any competition in his division.

I absolutely hate it, but he'd do well there.

Very select group --- Alabama, Memphis, Notre Dame maybe ...
