I keep hearing it is a very very strong chance. I even heard an agreement has been reached. Would this be the first time a G5 coach with a losing record got a call up to a storied P5 program?
Al Golden had a sub .500 record after 5 seasons (27-34) at Temple before going to Miami (but obviously had turned them around as they won 9 and 8 games his last two years).

Al was also a major candidate (but not hired) at UCLA after his second season at Temple with records of 1-10 and 4-8 his first two seasons. Neuheisel ended up getting the job.
I don't know about the G5 stuff but I think Chizik had a losing record at Iowa State when Auburn poached him.
Derek Dooley was hired by Tennessee coming off a 4-8 season.

That was the first year Temple was back in the Big East. Addazio went 9-4 his first year with Golden's players which was also their last year in the MAC.
Surprised
With the amount of coaching openings there are going to be this year there will be more than a few coaches with unproven resumes that get new jobs. I hope for several reasons this doesn't happen. I think Morris was a home run hire for SMU and if he's around long enough will have them competing for an access bowl birth. I also don't want to have to face him at VT every single year as an ECU fan.
Chad wanted to come back to Texas so that he could be close to his daughter who is in her freshman year at A&M. If this were A&M, Texas, or even Tech I would be worried. Va Tech? I think it's an unsubstantiated rumor
If Morris were to leave I hope SMU takes a serious look at Lincoln Riley. Despite his age he's now got 6 years of OC experience and I think is the next rising star in the coaching profession.

VT, IMO, is one of the best jobs in the country.

In a lot of ways it is, but it can be tough following a legend. Also they don't have a history of being great under multiple coaches they were a pretty mediocre to bad program prior to Beamer. However, with their location, local recruiting grounds, and weak ass division of the ACC the right coach could make them a perennial ACC title contender. I hope he doesn't take the job because I think he'd do a great job there and it would hurt ECU in a lot of ways. ECU has actually won a few recruiting battles recently against VT for offensive players, but with Morris that would get a lot harder if not impossible.

For the right fit, I agree to an extent (you can recruit DC and Hampton Roads very well at VT, but it is otherwise far from recruiting grounds and will never be on the level of the jobs at Bama, Texas, A&M, USC, Florida, Ohio State, LSU, or Michigan). But Chad, with his recruiting contacts being mainly in Texas and his family connections in Texas, may not be the right fit - and he's not the type that takes jobs unless the fit is there.

I don't think Herman or Fuente would be the guy there either.

VT is the perfect middle ground between the DMV, PA/NY/NJ and the deep south

Sounds like a job for Matt Rhule. Not trying to troll but I could see him doing well there. Temple looks a lot like the VT of 5 to 10 years ago to me.

It is the one job I am worried about with Matt Rhule...

If they keep Bud Foster it's a no brainer. Their downfall has been caused by anemic offense.
Morris is not going anywhere. Especially VT.

He wants his dream job - Texas A&M
I can't imagine Chad Morris taking a HC job outside the state of Texas
