That's what the coach and team are calling it.

It also sounds like the team has already put this loss behind them. Well, I think they should at least enjoy the first 2½ quarters.

I think Bentley will do fine.

Good Luck Monarchs!
I'm really scared with SB. He doesn't throw across the middle and he doesn't go deep. He's a one dimension QB and that isn't good.
Id rush every play if I were FAU.

He goes deep a ton. Go back and watch Western Ky game.

Well, it was a good season when SB was on the bench.

Your optimism is refreshing.

Yes. Thank you.
I agree that Bentley will be fine. He has improved a lot from early in the season and gained confidence. You could argue that he did more than Washington did before he got hurt against USM. Things snowballed on us quick and got away from us.

The FAU game is ours to take. Glad this game is at home.

Things will continue to snowball and Bentley won't be our quarterback in the future.

There would be no argument. We didnt get a first down on first three drives with DW and then we scored on 4 straight when Bentley came in.

Then promptly collapsed onto nothing at the first sign of pressure allowing SMU to take the lead and win.
Let's count wins against FBS teams, above 50% reception games, 250 yard passing games, games without an INT..... shall I go on?

A fumble by Pascal and then A tipped pass interception. You guys are ridiculous in ypur hatred of a freshman QB.

It's so bad to want good QB play for an entire game? I had no idea.

Freshman QB on the road vs a very good defense, btw. Bentley didnt play badly at all. If you score 24 to 31 points you should be in the game. You arent going to score on every single possession. Score first 4, then 2 turnovers (one he had nothing to do with). Then you allow a very good defense to just play pass in the 4th quarter.

If we score 31 points, we should win.
What I saw yesterday was encouraging, but not enough to make me get excited about Bentley. Yes, he played very well for an extended period of time, but he, like almost everyone else on the team, collapsed mentally, lost their confidence and reverted to freshmen. This is to be expected of young players, hit a rough patch ( 2 to's) and fall apart. Mental stamina will come in time and when it does these kids are going to be very, very good.
Bentley certainly shows signs of improvement, but his inability to consistently throw ove rdefensive linemen needs to change. Given his lack of size and slow release, I'm not sure it ever will. He seems to almost panic at times and completely loses his touch. Throws to hard, throws into the ground, over throws. All these tell me he's inexperienced. If things start well, he'll do fine. If we start 3 and out, we're in trouble. He has to have a good start and sustain an opening drive. His ego is to fragile to overcome adversity right now.
I am beginning to see why fan's from other schools are starting to dislike ODU fans. Some are so negative and berate others who disagree. You are relentless in your disdain for a 19 year old, redshirt freshman. These are just kids out there working their tails off. IMO, Shuler has improved. You can't blame that loss on him alone. How about backing off some and giving this kid a break. I will be there Saturday cheering for our team and will support them win or lose. Go MONARCHS!
That is the teacher in me looking out for kids...

Where is the indignation about our basketball players? They are college kids with just as many feelings as Bentley. Have you read the Purdue and St. Joes threads????

This obsession with SB is creepy.

USM was initially unprepared for the quick "dink and dunk" that Bentley came in with. They had prepared for DW, which meant lateral edge containment consideration and maybe even a spy.

The Eagles defense ultimately adjusted, from having to worry about lateral and vertical containment on our running QB, to vertical only defensive line play, thus heavily pressuring Bentley, and which had the added benefit of snuffing our inside only running game, as that has all year.
The result was a familiar one.

When confronted with a big defensive line, SB may not be big enough to see the field, and will likely have balls batted, and miss badly on everything but timing plays. He is not mobile enough to scramble away from the rush in order to get clear field vision.
Additionally, his wind up delivery is slow and his short passes have little touch and are often thrown way too hard.

Bentley is smart enough and works hard enough to be our QB, but to be successful as a starter he will need better protection, and a more diverse offense, including an outside running game and tight ends. Even our designed screens need pulling guards in order to have blocking. Right now the receiver is on his own. OL movement also allows for a lot more of misdirection and options to the other side.

I personally don't think he will be a starter after this year. That is neither personal nor indicative of any bias at all, and I may be wrong; but my opinion is based on what I see, not who I see. Certainly I haven't seen any hatred from any poster.
