This would be a quality win, versus a good A-10 team.

Prediction:
ODU - 70
SJU - 60
I didn't see anything today to make feel optimistic about winning this game. We already know Bacote, Jordan and Moseley won't contribute.
Time? TV network?

Much better personnel matchup.

I like Baker. Bacote has talent, but plays soft. I'd like to see more of Baker's scrappiness in Bacote. Don't know what to say about Mosely other than I'm not impressed. Nonetheless, this is a talented group of undersized players (except Pervier who needs to add muscle and conditioning). They could be a very good team if they can recapture the fire they had last season.
Based on today's game I'm throwing my expectations out the window for a little while. Here's hoping we bounce back.
Guys, Purdue is a top ten team......potentially top 5.

They have a HUGE, athletic team and were a perfect foil for us.

Don't abandon hope, we are still a very good team......St. Joe's is nowhere near as good as Purdue.

We have Freeman and some solid supporting players. We will be fine, just gotta settle down.

Good grief. All 3 keys were key to a team that won 27 games last year

I agree with all of that... I'm tempering my expectations for my own sake. I try my best not to get mad when we lose but damnit, I was mad after this one.03-lmfao
The poison for teams like ours has always been BIG 10 (or whatever the hell they are now) type large teams. Think of Michigan State in the NCAA, Michigan in the NIT semis, and now Purdue today. Being there, the height difference was unmistakable. Vassor worked his arse off trying to defend. Pervier and Taylor, likewise. And we did a solid job defending in half #1 - but our offense suffered as our guards, who should have had a quickness edge, struggled to get of shots. Mosley and Bacote, in particular struggled to find shots, and Baker; who struggles to create, had no chance.

Freeman calmed down in H2, but the three 3s by Purdue after we cut it to six killed us.

Encouraging -we turned over and defended Purdue pretty well. Pervier has some mobility, Talley some aggressiveness, and Caver takes nice shots. I am liking Vassor more and more - dude plays hard, and was dealt a tough hand today defensively.

Discouraging - Stith would have helped A LOT, Bacote's disappearance and head hanging, Mosley's no show, and failure to screen enough to free our guards (our strength) to get clean looks.

Tomorrow is a day we must hope that Purdue does not beat us for a second day. Need to move on and experienced players to seniors assert their will. St Joes not nearly as big, but they are nifty with the ball and make good passes, especially 42. Want to see Aaron bounce back with a senior performance.

We will be eating at the "Type-2 Diabetes New Recruit Welcome Center" known as Hash House tomorrow morning. I am hoping for a bounceback performance, as today was a hard one for ODU fans. If not, I will go over to that stupid mascot bird flapping its arms all game and kick it in its little undersized bird nads.
They are not as big as Purdue so we should play better than we did today. It seems we always have trouble with teams that have big guys. The Stanford game in the NIT last year was another example of big guys giving us fits.
Agree with all that's been said.
Vassor is a beast... and he looks like Derek Jeter.
Caver had some big balls today... taking shots. Just couldn't make most of them. Did JJ give him the green light? I dont think so.

Now, I kinda miss the preseason. I'd like to play Niagara and Buffalo ten more times each! LOL

Oh well... we typically eat the A-10 for lunch, Chipotle style
Game was simple.

They were too big, too skilled, and we couldn't shoot.

Nothing against Vassor (I love what he brings as a walk-on), but when he is your starting power forward against a Big 10 school, you're in trouble.
If we loose this game we can't blame it on size or depth. St. Joseph's goes about 7 deep and their tallest player is 6'8".
Huge game today. Huge. This season has not started all that well. Three roll players suspended, now behind in their progress where they should have been. Losing a player who our coach has said should he a double double guy. We just can't afford to go on a losing streak to start this season. Today is huge if we are to have a stellar season. We have some really tough road games coming up with VCU and W&M. Gotta get some confidence back.
The writing was on the wall going into the Purdue game. We lose our best big in Stith plus we have 3 guys coming back who missed all 3 warm up games. I do think we need to think about maybe playing the younger guys more. Bacote is a good player but probably would be more effective coming off the bench. He has proven he does not play well on the road or in big games as a starter so why not start the freshman Caver at point and play Freeman at shooting guard. This way Caver gets more time to develop. I don't see Bacote getting any better. One good game every once in a while doesn't work. Also play Talley ahead of Baker. Talley has size and a lot of upside to him. He just needs playing time to get better. Baker plays hard but is too small to play the 3 and too slow to play 1 or 2 spots. We all know he is a hard nose kid and like him but I think he would do better coming off the bench. Our bigs are all interchangable....would not be a bad idea to play Pervier,Biberaj, and Talley bringing in Taylor off the bench for a spark but he will never be a scorer and points are in big demand with this squad!

I have thought these exact ideas as well. Wish we would. Last year Bacote was very frustrating to watch and even though he had a good start against the first 3 (weak) opponents it's almost like he wasn't even on the court yesterday. As a senior guard, we fans should expect more from him.
None of our bigs should be shooting unless it is an uncontested lay up or dunk, period. The fact that our entire offensive scheme ran through Biberaj for much of the game yesterday is disgusting and won't work against a Big 10, A 10, or even a CAA opponent. We aren't playing Morgan State.
