Listened to most of the game on the radio. Caught the end on ESPN3. Doug Ripley is a huge upgrade. What is going to take to keep him calling the Men's games?
I'm sure it's a money thing. TA has a full time job with ODU as Director of Childish gibber gabber or some such thing. So, ODU gets a director and a radio voice for one price. If they bumped up Ripley, TA would have to take his place or they'd have to hire another PT announcer.
Didn't hear the call but I'm sure it's an upgrade.
I have been very impressed with DR all year. On the sidelines of Football and his reporting after the games.

He is hands down better then TA.

I'd be more focused on replacing Ankerson. Talk about stale. I like TA's enthusiasm. Agree Doug is really good though.
He is not a sideline guy, not his forte. He is great as the main guy and you cannot believe the stats and research he does for a game.
Again, I have to believe it's a money thing. Selig has a lot of things to accomplish, all of which cost money. Replacing Ankerson is probably just not that high on the list. Besides, how do you find a suitable replacement? Finding someone who is available consistently who actually has talent and is willing to work for peanuts is probably hard to do. Maybe we'll get lucky. Open auditions I guess.

He could do a better job of keeping us informed of who is on the court. Often we make substitutes that go unannounced. Hard to tell who is on the court for us
I have thought this for a couple of years now. Doug is far and away better at play by play than Alexander. Alexander is director of media or something like that so he is going to get the good gigs, ie. football and mens basketball. Remember, Alexander was a TV sports guy and a sometime disc jockey. Not sure what ripley's background is.

He does tweet when he ia doing PA for events across Virginia (half marathons, wrestling meets, D3 football title game, etc,), but I'm pretty sure broadcasting is a side thing.
