4 years at $2.6M per, correct? The narrative hasn't changed - UM's best interest to overachieve, make the tournament this season, and CJP parlays that into another offer that he would take.

I would much rather for that money to be spent on joining the Big 12.

Yes, unless our generous big donors dig deeper into their pockets for new money, the Pastner buy-out represents opportunity cost.
It's not dat much to some folks, just to everyone here. I been thinking about what I would do with
2 mill and I didn't need to think for over a minute. It goes really fast.

+$10,000,000
The buyout is a negotiable number. It won't be anywhere near that amount.
Regardless of the amount, the money is there. They'll pull the trigger when they see fit. Attendance will be the final killer for Josh.
There's no way Josh Pastner's buyout is 10 million dollars.
It would be super sweet if he gets invited to another gig he can live with.
Howcouldthathappen, you might ask. Let me count the ways.

You people need to wake up. He's not going anywhere. We're lucky to have him.

I doubt seriously Pastner will give up one cent owed him under the contract terms. Would you?

I am relieved you have the means to buy him out.

Apparently you have never been involved in a contractual buyout of any kind. Terms of the final deal are negotiated at the time of the buyout. There is an agreed upon contractual number and you negotiate from that point forward.

It happens every year with coaches and teams. I genuinely wonder if some of you actually watch or keep up with sports...

According to the lawyers I work with on contracts, the terms of the contract bind both parties.

If the contract terms require paying Pastner the full amount owed him, then he must be paid the full amount.

Would you be willing to accept less than you are owned under the contract terms? The answer for me is absolutely no.

You would if you thought it would have a negative affect on getting hired and negatively impact your next contract... Again, it is pretty standard practice for coaches contracts to be bought out at a negotiated down price.
