Either you watched the Youngstown St game or you didn't. Stats don't tell the story. Boothe schooled em. Will be a fun year to watch Rocket basketball.

He looks slow and he looks like he's not working very hard and the points, rebounds, blocks and assists just keep piling up. Two games against bad opponents may not tell you much but Boothe has definitely accepted his role as "The Man".

Larry Bird looked slow.
Going into this season, I was curious as to how well Boothe would adapt to his necessary new role. Only 2 games in, but I think I will cross that "concern" off my checklist. Even when better teams start to double him, he will still be a weapon as a distributor like last season, with Jon Jon driving to the basket and (hopefully) either Sanford or Navigato hitting some open 3s.
it's everything he does. catching the ball well, making decisive moves, have counter moves to the one he just scored on, being in perfect defensive position, making good outlet passes, etc... plus, a lot of his moves against YSU were just nasty.
Yeah but what happens when he gets into foul trouble, which he is known to do from time to time? Garber is our only remaining experienced big man...

What did we do last year? Weatherspoon wasn't a great low post defender. Garber is very serviceable as a defender and rebounding. we will have to find the lost points from other players if he's out of the game. And by MAC season hopefully Navo and Adway are contributing a lot more.

Senior All-MAC candidates have a way of suddenly becoming foul-proof. Experience, refs cutting some slack, who knows but I suspect Nathan won't have the ttouble he's had before. He and Yolanda R are two of the best at blocking shots standing straight up and not leaving the floor (let's be honest- Yolanda COULDN'T leave the floor) - just hope the refs get that like I do. Garber can give us minutes, but not points- looks like making up for Boothe's points when he's out won't be a problem. We have three frosh averaging in, or near, double figures. This class looks to be VERY good two games in.
The dynamic of our team has changed and we have found scoring options!!!... albeit against turrible teams. We will see where we stand after our Horizon league schedule.

That run will be very telling.

Not worried about Nathan getting in foul trouble this year; at times he was the only Rocket playing "D" and was pressing to make up for deficiencies up top.
you feel me yet rocket fans?

Oh yeah. He's been impressive in all phases. The play I liked best was when he missed the baseline jumper and hustled back in transition to steal the pass under the basket at the other end.

This team is going to be fun to watch develop.
Now I'm thinking that Boothe was probably the best player on last year's team as well, but the ball-handlers declined to utilize him to his potential.

always have
Boothe is a good defender but since he is not a shot blocker, it's tough for him to defend down low. If he is aggressive the refs call a foul. He's pretty much a vertical hands in the air defender down low...

You realize he will leave UT as it's all-time leading shot blocker? Partly as a function of minutes played, but he's usually among the MAC leaders as well.

Did not know he was all time shot blocker. Still stand by my argument though.

Seems to me that players get credit for many more blocked shots than they used to back in the day.
Boothe the MAC West Player of the Week for his games against Youngstown State and Loyola.
