I thought most knew the sordid details as to why he left.

WHO ?
I know this will probably get some negative responses, but I'm gonna say it anyway cause who gives a ****.

The team looks more in sync without Austin. I don't know if it'll translate to more wins, but everyone seems to be on the same page. We're not waiting on Austin to get down court and running the offense through him. We're just playing. We look more free.

We got bits and pieces of the story, but not the full thing.

I agree I think this team with no expectations will play a lot more loose and free. The football team being so good has been a blessing in disguise for the basketball team it has taken the attention off of the basketball program. They do look more like a cohesive unit out there although it's just one game I think it could be s surprising team this year.

I wouldn't be shocked if they beat Oklahoma. Chemistry in basketball is a really big deal and this team seems to have that more than the last few teams have had. This year could be a pleasant surprise. We have shown we do not play well with expectations so maybe with little or no expectations we can exceed what people project us to be.

I really like Dedric and Tarrant not to mention KJ. I don't think it's crazy to say this team has slightly more talent than last years. I mean KJ is better than King. Dedric is as good if not better than Nichols. Tarrant is better than any guard we had last year. Burrell has a year under his belt and is a good such man off the bench gives u some good energy and scoring off the bench. Crawford will be better in his second year with the experience he got last year and even the new guys like Martin and Marshall will contribute off the bench. It's pretty clear this team is better than last years and I think the ones who were causing locker room issues are gone now too. I'm looking forward to seeing what this team can do and hoping we are one of those surprise teams that comes out of nowhere. Go Tigers!
So is it more ok to slam Nichols on this board than it is Pastner because

1) Pastner gets it more overall and posters are more tired of reading Pastner slams?

Or 2) people see Pastner as being a part of Memphis while Austin is no longer?

Or both?
I dunno if you are addressing me or not but I'm not slamming anyone. I'm just saying we look more like a team this year than last. Why that is the case I'm not sure. I'm sure there is plenty of blame to go around for what happened last year but that's over time to move forward and this new look Tiger team seems like they have a new attitude and it's kind of refreshing. They will still struggle I know but they appear to be a good group and it should be fun to watch.

I'd be willing to bet you're in the minority, here and anywhere else you choose to look.

I'm ok with that. Forgive me for being hopeful. I guess I should be more negative about the team. Sorry for being optimistic and not toeing the miserable line. I will do better next time. I don't see why this team can't surprise some people though. I know if they lose today the miserables can't wait to bash me for this post like one game determines a season. I just think this team has a different feel about it and I think they will overachieve this year. That is all.
I'm willing to let the season play out, as the old gambler sang, There'll be time enough for bashing, when da seasons done '. And I didn't take it that he was bashing Nichols, but I understand what he's saying, there was a different dynamic to the team with Austin being the focal point, that's it. Instead of depending on one player, it's more of a team effort. No different than if the Grizzlies traded Gasol, the team would play completely differently, and by someone pointing that out, it wouldn't mean that you're bashing Gasol.

Some of it may be (1), but I think even Pastner's strongest critics would say that he hasn't quit on the team. Maybe some people hate the way he coaches, or that his efforts are completely misguided in how he leads the team, maybe some would happier if he did quit, but I don't think anyone would say he has stopped trying or stopped caring.
I personally hope Virginia loses every game during AN's enrollment there. Nothing personal, just another P5 team that thinks they're better than the rest of us and another dumb kid that thinks the world revolves around them, both can therefore "Kiss My Grits".
05-stirthepot
Shaq always played better without AN alongside him for some reason.

There were a few spurts where they would both be in and being playing great, but usually it was one or the other. Just never had a good enough chemistry to be great together.

Wish AN the best since he tried, but still dislike UVA simply due to some of their fans in Raleigh a few years back in the NCAAT.
This seems like a lot of trouble to try to convince yourself that we'll be better off without Austin Nichols.

Kid was, is and will continue to be an amazing player, we'll miss him but he ain't coming back. Let's look to the future, not the past.
Those who remained silent while many lambasted Tarik Black but jump up and down now defending Nichols...whose daddy threatened to sue our school and whose attorney said incredibly nasty things about us as well...to his silence...

Amusing.

Our team would have been better this year with a fully invested Nichols. However, he was not fully invested last year...which seems obvious now...and that was a big reason the team finished 18-14. Not the only reason, but it did not help.
tough to knock off a founder of this country at his house.

His attorney simply told the truth. We can't knock the Nichols family for telling the truth (even if it hurts) when the University is trying to block him from transferring.
Yes.

We can.

And no-it is not automatic that our program is failing or whatever nastiness the attorney screamed.

Only in Memphis can someone state incendiary over the top invective aimed at Memphis, then have that person defended, instead of defending our program. Defending our program and Memphis against such vile comments does not mean you believe that everything is perfect, contrary to the narrative that has run amok here.

Which post slammed Nichols?
