This morning was a double shot of Rice-ness at the West U Rotary Club: the guest speakers were Joe Karlgaard and the Rice student chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
EWB was the inspiration for and first recipient of the Rice Engineering Alumni student project grant program launched in 2011 (http://alumni.rice.edu/rea/grant-program), which awards up to $8000 each year for student engineering projects outside of course work.* The grant program was also one of the very first initiatives I helped steer as the new REA President that fall.
*REA also provides a lot of support for course-related projects, including sponsoring one of the OEDK design teams.
