This isn't a knock on Cobb, but I think he'll be better suited as a 6th man ala Bobbit. Caupain could be better off in a scorers role, allowing JJ to open up the offense.

1 : Jennifer
2: Caupain
3: Shaq
4: Clark
5: Ellis

1st guard off the bench is Cobb
1st wing off bench is Evans
1st big off bench is Deberry
I also wonder if we could see some scenarios where we run Shaq as a point forward situation like Kirkland or James White at various times throughout the year.
I guess in a perfect world, Jenifer and Evans would come in and be studs right away, and we could start:

PG: Jenifer
SG: Caupain
SF: Evans
PF: Clark
C: Ellis

However, I don't expect Jenifer and Evans to be first-year starters. I do think both will be in the rotation and contribute, but I think both will require some adjustment to the college game. Plus, I don't think Cronin wants to start a freshman unless he has to. Last year, he basically didn't have a choice but to start Clark. Of course, he handled it well. If Evans and Jenifer can come in and play anywhere close to Clark's level last year, I will be ecstatic.

Shaq is nowhere near a good enough ball handler to play that kind of role.

It's also worth mentioning that Cobb was more effective once he was inserted into the starting lineup. On paper he seems to make sense as a 6th man/scorer off the bench, but in practice he has performed better as a starter.
Troy doesn't play the 2. He's a PG and only a PG. Jenifer is too.

Thus, any lineup that includes them both is probably a rarity.
This is the time of year I miss Bearchatter.
I need to see them play with some continuity, before I know what works best.
If I had to guess, 1. Caupain 2. Cobb 3. Shaq 4. Clark 5. Ellis

That said, if our talent level is any indication, I imagine a lot of back-ups will have very similar minutes to the starters. Evans, Deberry Jenifer and Johnson will consistently see the floor, there's no getting around that.
What I really look forward to(provided Ellis is less dis-interested than he seemed this evening) is seeing Ellis and Deberry on the inside. I think having them + Shaq on the floor at the same time, would be an absolute nightmare to score against.
My guess is that barring injury/suspension/etc. Caupain and Cobb start just about every game this year.
The only lineup change I could see by conference play is Evans replacing Shaq. Evans is going to be one of those guys we talk about for a longgggg time.

I have heard him talk about it a couple times and from what I have gathered Mick doesn't like having both Ellis and DeBerry on the floor at the same time for a variety of reasons.

Absolutely, at least 5 different lineups... if we want to go big... if we play a 3 guard line up... if we play 4 forwards, etc...
I'd bet starters are Caupain, Cobb, Shaq, Clark, Ellis, but lots of guys will play a lot of minutes. Lots of interchangeable pieces give us some flexibility. The sky is the limit for this team and very excited for basketball season to begin.
I'd see it being a base look of :
PG Caupain (25-30 min)
SG Cobb (25-30 min)
SF Evans (20-25 min)
PF Clark (25-30 min)
C Ellis (25-30 min)

Reserves
PG Jenifer (10-15 min)
SG Johnson (20-25 min, 10-15 SG, 5-10 SF)
SF Johnson/Shaq
PF Shaq (20-25 min, 10-15 PF, 5-10 SF)
C DeBerry (10-15 min)

Quadri 10th man
Tre Scott Red Shirt
I think the starting five is pretty set for the year except at shooting guard. I really like the new guys this year, but I think their minutes aren't going to be great once we hit the teeth of the schedule. There is a ton of quality, experience on this roster this year.

i Agree. Either Cobb or Jenifer at the point but as the season progresses, I think Jenifer will be most effective on the point and Cobb being the Tony Bobbit clone coming off the bench to spark the team.
