We've gone through this before with Greg Robinson, please end it now. A new coach gets Dungey for 3 years and a new Dome in 2017/2018. That's not enough to lure a big name like Fuente or Herman, but we can still pull a good, legit head coach. Only negative is the new coach is in Ralph Wilson/MetLife until construction on the Dome is complete.

Someone like Dino Babers, Doc Holliday, Matt Rhule, Matt Campbell, PJ Fleck -- make it happen, Coyle.

THIS is why I hated the fact that Shafer never hired a real coordinator. There isn't anyone that we can promote from within. It's astonishing how bad we are at creating continuity. We are astonishingly good at ALWAYS being in rebuilding mode - even though we haven't had a truly good season since '01.
This is classic grass is greener type stuff.

Almost all of the guys you listed are good coaches but who knows how they would do at Syracuse? Maybe it is not the coach? Maybe it is difficult to recruit kids to play in an antiquated dome located in Central New York? Maybe that is why they are dropping $400–500 million to renovate the Carrier Dome?

Also, PJ Fleck is highly overrated. He's one of the new flavors of the month for no apparent reason, but he has a 14-19 record at Western Michigan. He does have a good Schiano-esque slogan though. Instead of chopping wood, you'll be rowing boats. Good for you.

As a fan of the team that will be competing against your annually, by all means hire that dude. He'll be way better that Shafer.
Honestly, we need Schiano. We need to recruit NY and NJ hard and pull a couple of decent players from MA and PA. After that, we should be fine with a handful of Florida talent and some players from Georgia, the Midwest, and Maryland/Virginia.

NJ is the difference-maker, though.

Recruiting aside, I know Greasy Greg isn't the best coach, but that can be heavily mitigated with coordinators. And, if we're seriously considering dropping half a B into the Dome, I find it very hard to believe we couldn't find a couple MM to throw at assistant coaches to make a *real* difference.

That would be like buying a Ferrari and being too cheap to put tires on it.

Have you watched Shafer coach? His recruiting is above average -- so was Greg Robinson's. Neither are good head coaches, though
Most grass is greener than nearly-dead grass. Fact.

What was with the TO with a minute to go in the first half while knocking on the door to the end zone just to hand the ball off? Then squibbed kicked giving FSU plenty of time & great field position, they didn't even have to burn a TO before scoring a TD. Poor time management & coaching.

FIFY
HCSS is absolutely infuriating to this fan because he is still making the same mistakes over and over. He has not learned at all on the job.
He is an ok coach unless we tank the rest of the schedule i'd give him next year as the offense should get better and the defense can't be any worse than this year. I get the frustration with Coach Shafer, i really do as some decision he makes are infuriating and at some point being competitve in all the games wont be enough as he needs to upset somebody and beat someone other than wake from a p5. we have had 2 or 3 missed opportunities this year from being in a good spot

the squib was a miss hit from our kickoff guy whose job is to kickoff only. The timeout wasnt a bad play before the half but at that point you let the clock run all the way down before calling it

Compared to ourselves. As bad as it is currently it is still much better than it was. Sad I know.

We do have a pretty nice casino nearby Cuse. COGS

BTW, Cuse's recruiting is coming up...it isn't average yet in the ACC...but it isn't that far behind.

http://247sports.com/Season/2016-Footbal...erence=ACC
Currently 11th in the ACC, 11th in average points per recruit

http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Footbal...erence=ACC
2015 class was 12th in the ACC, and last in average points

http://247sports.com/Season/2014-Footbal...erence=ACC
2014 class was 10th in the ACC and 12th in average points.

I really would like you to explain exactly where recruiting is coming up.
Cat...let it play out...there are several difference makers on the team this year. The kids committing have more P5 offers than ever. Instead of grabbing kids from MAC teams they are starting to grab recruits from other P5 schools.

Rankings are a guide...not the only source. The recruiting services tend to over-rank 2-3 star kids into 3-4 star kids at the bigger subscriber bases. The doofus covering the NE for rivals did it all the time for the teams' fan bases paying his salary.

Chandler Jones was a 2 star recruit for the Cuse...his brother Art was a 2-3 star recruit.

I get it that a team with 4-5 star recruits will win more...but Shafer seems to have a good eye for talent...the question is can he develop it?
Shafer makes up for his weak recruiting by coaching the players down.
