I did not know TC Cannon owned the Plaza. Spent a lot of time there in my college days. I don't know if I posted this on the board, but I learned earlier this year of another connection with TC.

I had known of TC Cannon the UAB superfan for many years and had greeted him in passing a few times over the years. I also had heard of a Terry Cannon that my dad had raced with many many years ago at Dixie, Sayre and BIR speedways. In January of this year, my father died, and at the funeral, I saw TC there, wearing his famous UAB sweatshirt. I was thinking, "why is TC the UAB fan at my father's funeral?" I had never connected the two, until someone introduced me to him. TC told me some great stories about my dad, and it really helped my heart that day.

If you are reading this, TC. Thanks
He graduated from Southern Miss?!?

I'm guessing it was pre-UAB, so I guess he gets a pass.

I can name several HUGE UAB Boosters who are Memphis graduates. It happens. Think of all our graduates that support AU or Bammer.

Many of us were graduates (and fans) of other schools before there was a UAB and were in our 50s before there was a D1 UAB football team. Becoming a UAB graduate and fan does not wipe out the first half century of ones life experiences.
BTW, T.C. and his wife are Legion Field Stadium Certificate owners.
I saw TC out wrenching on one of his beloved rally Bugs the other day when I was passing through Lakeview.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- While some praise Bell's plan to build a baseball stadium and surrounding entertainment district near the University of Alabama at Birmingham, T.C. Cannon called the idea "absolute insanity."

Age: 74
Residence: Lakeview
Political experience: Unsuccessful runs for mayor and City Council.
Professional experience: Bar owner for more than 50 years, including 26 years in Lakeview.
Education: Bachelor's degree, University of Southern Mississippi; current student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Issues: Improving issues between UAB and the city, improving existing city amenities including Legion Field.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cannon, 74, a longtime bar owner best known for founding the pub "T.C.'s" in Lakeview, said the city should invest in the amenities it already has, including modernizing Legion Field and supporting the growth of UAB.

Of the Birmingham Barons baseball team, Cannon said, "Mayor (Tony) Petelos would never have let it leave Hoover if it was worth a nickel. For Mayor Bell to build a baseball park and for UAB to even mention an on-campus stadium, that's like abandoning Legion Field, and that is absolutely bad management, bad planning, and it's ego-driven. They'll create a few short-term jobs, part-time jobs."

Cannon called it insensitive to invest millions in the project while the city continues to have a double-digit poverty rate and problems with violent crime.

"The people are suffering, the kids are killing themselves and our greatest resource is being wasted," Cannon said. "I'm passionate about this. I love this city, but it is grossly mismanaged."

As mayor, Cannon said he would champion further development of UAB and challenge the University of Alabama System board of trustees to pay more attention to the Birmingham campus.

"There is no relationship between the strongest thing we have in this city -- UAB -- and the city of Birmingham," he said. "The only time you hear UAB mentioned are two reasons: The city is either wanting something, or they are complaining about something. The city is the body and UAB is the heart, and they are functioning separately."
I guess I derailed it in Post #4, but since it is derailed now, how about we stop over reacting to Bamanblazerfan's comments. He wasn't out of line this time, but sometimes you guys hammer him regardless of whether he is or isn't out of line.

Maybe lay off a little?

Back to TC, I'll never forget Jake Arians kicking ball in practice around 1997 that landed on TC's dog! That dog howled in agony.
Remember TC getting in a wreck and arriving late to a game in a bloody hospital gown? We were losing until he showed up. Was it ECU?
I'm young enough to have been in college when TC's was the go-to joint for underage hydrating. Lots of fond memories there.
Between penny beer night at TC's and all-nighters at the Pickwick Plaza location, it's amazing my liver works at all.

Preach it brother!

I wouldn't even know what a stadium certificate was if it wasn't for him. Those, education funding and George Wallace are thrown into any thread he can. It's annoying and irrelevant, yet my posts get deleted.
TC's heart is in the right place that's for sure!
