Apple has always had flakey wireless, especially when roaming -- lots of issues with 9.1 wifi, many folks are simply either downgrading or waiting on fix.
My phone, just recently, has not been connecting to wifi. It will show that it has found a network and will have the check mark next to the network but will still be connected to my cellular data. I have no clue what to do.
A few things that Apple will always suggest trying when you bring it in:
1. reboot the device
2. if there's still a problem choose the "Reset Network Settings" option
3. If there's still a problem they'll tell you to restore it to iOS 9.1 again without restoring from backup.

If the problem persists after #3 I'd schedule a Genius Bar appointment.

try turning off the "wifi assist" option in settings. maybe that'll keep it from looking so hard for it.

I'll give that a try. I'm also going to try the ole, and I don't know why I didn't think of this yesterday, turn the phone off and back on approach. I was at Chick Fil A for lunch and it showed the wifi, showed the check, but never connected....I was still on my crap 3G. Last night while I was with my wife at Khols I tried again...same results.

I always forget to turn mine off & on, and I read something a while back that said that is the best way to keep your phone operating at a high level.

It's just like a computer and sometimes applications don't free things like RAM properly. A reboot is the only way to resolve that.
i re-booted the apple devices and the router

and was able to connect to 5g, for the time being
I am on ios 9.1 and haven't had any problems at all.
I upgraded my iPhone 6 to the latest iOS and it took over two hours and reset my alarm, so it didn't go off the next morning. Everything else is fine, but I did have to glance over all my settings like Bluetooth for the car and Wi-Fi for all my remembered locations.
