15-16, another losing season but just barely, the bad news though, is that 15-16 record includes a 6-12 record in conference play 03-yawn

Interesting NIU is ranked 436th for offense, but with only 330 or so Div 1 teams, that means 100 non D1 teams ahead of NIU, ouch.

One other scary item, of those 15 wins, 4 of them are against teams Massey ranks as lower than 1000th in the country.

The good news...NIU starts 5-0 according to these projections.
Massey's guesses are no better than anyone else's.

The official Dog Fan projection shows NIU finishing 27-4 and ranked #21 in the country. There, that balances out Massey's guesses.

That is quite a way to go out on the ledge there DF, according to him your prediction has a 0.22% chance of happening of NIU getting 27 wins haha, or about 15 times less likely then NIU beating Ohio State in football!

Actually according to these distributions 16-15 looks like it might be NIU's most likely outcome.
Massey Ratings have Memphis as the better football team than Toledo and the AAC as the better conference than the MAC. Let's talk about that.

With the win over Ole Miss, I don't have a problem with that.Still have a lot of FB to play.
Good grief can we at least let the irrational AAC football talk go in a basketball thread? I really feel like this is Invasion of the Body Snatchers with how many AAC homers/diehards/fanatics are in here
Good Lord, how long do we have to wait for this program to turn the corner? If this team finishes under .500 again I don't see how SF can bring Monty back. 5 years is long enough to turn around a program that has continued to embrace mediocrity, at best.
Edit: I just checked and apparently he has 2 years left on his contract after this year so it looks like he won't be tossed until 2017 at the earliest.
Injuries will tell all. If Bowie can be healthy enough to play well, and if Highsmith can contribute (what's the latest on him?) then we should at least finish above .500 finally. If not, could be another bad year. That's why I'm not anxious about Monty just yet, he seems to be bringing in better players so far...
Pencil in NIU to the MAC Championship game to conclude the 2016-17 season. Not saying they will win a championship, but they will be in the finals in 2016-17. Best freshman class to ever come to NIU

Lolz.

Half of them will probably leave after this year.

If that happens, then yes, the questions about Montgomery's future all become valid. I don't believe it will though, I think this core sticks, with maybe a lone defector.
If we finish 15-16 with this schedule it is a terrible year!!
I don't think there is any question Key, Porter, and Wilson are going to be studs in the MAC, the question right now is, can they have an impact in their freshman years. If they don't have much impact, this probably will be a .500 team.
I would argue that Levi Bradley and Austin Pauga have just as much potential as any of the freshman. Pauga is going to become a unreal shooter and Bradley just needs to put on size. Bradley has as much talent as any of our guys.

Definitely should have put Bradley in that list, that was my bad. This is just crazy with these freshman, it was almost like the MAC's version of the Fab 5, obviously not the skill, but in a mid-major version of it, it could turn out like that. My hope and goal for this team headed into this year and next season is Keep...This...Core...Intact
I just hope NIU is watchable on offense. It's been so long since NIU had an offense that's fun to watch. At least since 2006, when I started watching, ha. At least Silas was fun...though it's a stretch to call whatever NIU was trying in those days as team "offense."

I'd love to see a real point guard. Oh, that would be great.

The Silas days were Patton saying "Everybody get the hell out of the way and let him do his thing because I don't feel like coaching anyone". That was probably the most painful time in NIU basketball I can ever remember. Not only was NIU horrendous, there was no sense of direction or no sense anything was being built. I have never seen a college coach check out like Patton did and just collect a paycheck. What a joke to the coaching profession.

wow.
Serious question, what's the downside of playing awful teams out of conference and inflating their wins? Tournament resume? LOL. Attendance? Maybe even more of an LOL. If NIU wants to get some confidence and inflate their win total, I'm totally okay with that.

I'll take 18-13 with 5 wins over bums than 13-18 with 5 losses against quality opponents.
If you are the coach, every win counts on your resume. Nobody looks back and checks your schedule. If MM wins 20 games this year, we will all forget that he beat 5 teams just as good or a little better than DeKalb High School.
