Do we have an honest to goodness QB controversy? What say you?
No controversy. This is DW's job. Bentley got two wins in his first two collegiate starts. He'll be alright.

This. He has the tools we need right now, mobility and guile. Should be an interesting off-season at the position though.

This. We have our QB for the next season and a half. Time to find the man who will take over in 2017.

Split the difference. Definitely have our guy for the rest of this season. Everyone gets a crack at it in 2016. Too soon to give up on Bentley, the newcomers will factor in, and I suspect the coaches would be happier to have an established quarterback that allows DW to go back to WR, though if he continues to distinguish himself and wind the competition for next year, they can live with that as well.
I just don't think we can afford for Shuler to be a bust. He must succeed, it's all part of the plan. Heir to Taylor.
We got Drayton Arnold coming in next year. Would love to redshirt him, but we may not have that luxury.

Let us not forget this exact talk before Shuler came in. We as fans don't really know what we have for next year, and what irons are in the fire.
Oh I'm not anointing anybody. No one knows what's going to happen. Maybe we can build up our line and create system that SB can flourish in. The one that DA has that SB doesn't is the ability to run and get out of trouble.
Not a controversy, moreso a conspiracy. Shuler will transfer to South Carolina after his father is hired to be the new head ball coach and thus demanded Bobby pull him to avoid an injury....

You don't yank your qb after 3 plays unless you've been considering doing so for a while, and when the back up lights it up for 300+ with 4tds I'd say there is very little left as far as competition and controversy.
Anybody heard from Giles? I'd like to hear his take on the QB situation now that we have seen how good our offense can be with DW at the helm. That performance came after only two days practicing at qb. Once he got comfortable mid third quarter he was better than I could have even hoped for. There should be no QB controversy, but Bobby sure didn't even come close to endorsing DW as the QB going forward, and that has me a bit concerned.

Wilder kinda made it sound like SB is still the guy. He said about SB "He is not done yet" Then later in the interview he said SB is a now a developmentally player.

I am still confused about that interview. DW is the better QB.
He, oddly, was not nearly as outwardly excited about DW's performance as I would have expected. When guys step up like that, BW usually fawns all over them, but he was more reserved in his praise for DW than even some other players in this game. The whole thing struck me as a little odd, but I am probably just being crazy and conspiratorial, because he wasn't as pumped about DW's performance as me.

IMO, I think it may have to do with BW pumping up BS to everyone. DW's performance has people questioning if this move should have been made earlier. I think BW did a disservice to Bentley by making him the "heir to TH", that's a lot of pressure to put on anyone (considering what TH did in his 4 years.)

Im not sure why you called me out. Im a Monarchs fan first and foremost and enjoyed every minute of Davids performance. I look forward to see what David does if he has a full week of practice. I want what gives the team the best chance of winning. Right now, David played well. I look foreard to seeing him vs a better team that prepares for him. Hopefully he plays just as well.
I think one of two things happened and it revolved around having three straight games we were unlikely to win.

1. SB had been promised the job, and since wins weren't necessarily expected, BW felt he could, and needed to, fulfill that promise by proving to SB that a change was needed. (Less likely scenario)

2. BW believes SB will be a very good QB, but needs to get better. He thought he would improve with the reps, and stuck with him while he was playing with house money, but when we got into a must win, all bets were off. (More likely)

Edit:
It just occurred to me that there is a third reason that has been mentioned earlier. DW has a potential pro career at WR, and he may feel it is unfair to DW to hurt that opportunity.
I like Wilder, but I really have a hard time watching Shuler and then watching Washington and wondering how BW could have seen these two every day in practice and not be able to see the the enormous difference between the two. Washington is WAY better than Bentley. How on earth could he not see this In all seriousness I do not see Bentley playing another down at ODU, I know this is being harsh on this fine young man but it is the truth.Washington is our quarterback from this moment on until he finishes school. Shuler is too slow to play at this level. These new quarterback recruits we have coming in can learn next year watching Washington and be ready to play the next year. There is no quarterback controversy. It has all been decided that we have one that is ready and one that is in way over his head!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would hesitate to make these statements after 1 game. But wilder mentioned that Washington has been hurt all year since EMU and he had no shot at playing QB.
Yeah that sounded like a BS excuse. He was healthy enough to play WR, and wasn't getting reps at qb until 2 days before the game. Sure seems he could have at least been practicing at qb if he was practicing at WR.

Edit:

I really like Wilder and am not one who is questioning him as our coach. I hope he is around for a very long time. But I think he blew this one. There is no way that you could watch those kids and come to the conclusion the SB is the starter and DW isn't even close enough to be practicing at qb. If you saw the game, DW was better in every area that SB and the opponent has nothing to do with any of those assessments.

Key word Wilder said in the interview was Coach Scott had a talk with him about the change on Wednesday.

I believe in wilders heart that SB was his guy and wanted to believe he was going to be good.

04-cheers I can drink to this. Hell after watching DW I believe if we had made the change in the spring and summer workout and practices we would have been more competitive in the last 3 games.
