Wearing my UT gear in Charleston, SC and a guy asked what I thought of Campbell. He didn't't seem to think interest in him from USC was that high but he had heard his name. Also flew down with a guy from Arkansas who said he never thought he'd see the day a team "like Toledo" could beat the Hogs. I don't even think he meant to be belittling. Just that SEC a entitlement thing. Disgusting sight of the day: on a South Carolina license plate, actually part of the plate itself, a buckeye leaf cluster and tosu logo at the top of the plate. And this is in Charleston, SC.
I'm in Dallas right now and I am forced to go to an OSU watch party tomorrow night for the game against Penn St.

Most of people there are Toledo grads...decked head to Toe in scarlet and gray 03-bangheadM04-chairshot

I even get that, but why would the state of South Carolina have a license (no pun intended) to put OSU logos on their licenses? Wait, I know the rea$on.....

Pathetic.
The rockets watch parties will come! A team like this can explode a fanbase growth wise. These students (particularly freshman) that start a culture of coming to games can be great for us. They will remember their first season at UT and rushing the field for their first ever game.... And an undefeated MAC Championship season to go along with that!!

Truly disgusting and vile Mike. Before the party eat lots of beans, cabbage, etc. Hopefully you can help toot Penn State to a win...

Wear your blue & gold and root for the blue & white !!
I'm pretty sure there was a Constitutional Amendment to prevent people from being forced to do things like that, but I wore UT gear on an appointment in Ann Arbor, see no reason why someone couldn't do same at a Penn St. OSU party. Probably be a good conversation starter and points for loyalty.

Oh, unless it's a Halloween party, then I can understand.

I would boycott that event.
They have those suckeye parties here too. 90% of there fans are alums other schools. One neighbor in particular played bball at Ohio, and doesn't follow the Bobcats. He is a big suckeye fan. They all make me want to puke.03-phew Go Rockets!

Name names! 03-lmfao
Insecurity, that's all. Like anything, if a few wear UT gear, more will feel comfortable showing their loyalty. If they're OSU fans, their business but they only hurt their own professional selves when they don't promote their own diploma.

Be a leader, wear UT!

Probably shouldn't name him. Played in mid 60's.

Take 'em all on a major guilt trip and then tip 'em upside down for UT athletic donations! Oh yeah, throw in a little T-O-L . . . .

GO ROCKETS!

GO ROCKETS!

I'll have some Toledo gear on. At least my friends mention Toledo's success this year. Usually, they forget we have a football team...
Was in Hilton Head today wearing a UT shirt. Waitress at restaurant said she went to school with Michael Julian. Later in the hotel elevator ran into a woman who is a UT law school grad.
It might be easier to grow a Rocket Nation if the game event wasn't so corny. Pizza box shuttle for some money..T-shirt launch and catch it with a net for a t-shirt and $100, singing the Dave White jingle for some money, spending 5 painful minutes trying to determine who wins a 2-year lease on a Jeep with 3 Jeeps down on the field, blasting some awful hip-hop music as loud as could be tolerated - and not shutting it off when our kicker kicks the ball, but rather turning it down while the ball is in the air. Going to a game anymore is like attending a 3-ring circus. The worst for me is having a game announcer and some guy in the stands that feel like they are auditioning for a gig on the Price is Right. Shut the f-up and treat it like we have some class - and not 3rd class. It's annoying as hell and if that is what the school has to do to get money from these sponsors, then I guess we continue to prostitute the game day and keep losing fans in the stands. People go to Michigan and Ohio State to have a big school feel and not to put up with that crap. It just illustrates how small time our approach to marketing can be. Love having the sponsors, but their marketing people are a lot more savvy than the ones at UT. They get exposure - and the school looks like a semi-pro team begging to get more cash.

Just my opinion. I hate that atmosphere.
I really doubt people go to Mich and OSU to "not have to put up with that crap" but it's an opinion. The roving announcer's screaming and fake voice inflections annoy me too, he's just not a natural at that job but people around seemed interested in the shirt catch. Singing gets good stadium response when asked to "vote." The funeral home thing, thanks for the sponsorship but that one has most heads scratching. Trying the Adam's Family sing-a-long was a good idea but again, he's not a natural at that. Dance seems popular, kiss cam...

Probably we're the ones out of touch.
While annoying, I don't think those are reasons for people not showing up at games.
1) The general public does not take UT seriously when it comes to football. They mostly watch Michigan or OSU. There were plenty skipping UT's game, for MSU v UM parties. UT would have to get to a major bowl game and keep getting to major bowl games in order for casual fans to notice and show up.
2) Everything is on TV. Why leave the comfort of you home and sit it in the cold, if you can just watch the game from home, while getting ready for the the OSU or UM game? The students didn't even leave their dorms or greek row and those are within walking distance.
3) The general public could care less about MAC opponents. Hell, even a win over BGSU more or less musters a "Awe, good for them" response from the general public.
4) The MAC sold its soul to ESPN, which resulted in fewer Saturdays.

In summary, UT needs to get to major bowls and beat big name teams on an annual basis. That will require finding a way, to find the $$$$, to retain a quality head coach and sustain a program. It also wouldn't hurt it Toledo could get into a bigger/better conference or the non-power schools developed their own playoff system. If all of that happens, UT will draw well but continue to battle OSU and UM for fans and students might actually walk 500 feet from their dorms to game in the cold. It is what is, just enjoy it.
