Full Version: Aggie's Over / Under -- Week 7 – Charlotte

Through the first five games, Vince Lowe and David Washington have combined for a total of only 16 pass receptions, an average of just over three catches per game between them. Of course that includes the Marshall game that Washington missed because of his concussion, but even if he had played and had an average day, the total would still be right at 18 catches and an average that would remain less than four.

Here's are some sobering facts. Coming into this game, Charlotte has the conference's leading defense, allowing only 334 yards of total offense per game. They have the number three rushing defense and the number three passing defense. In contrast, ODU is the conference’s worst (No. 13!) in total offense at 296 yards per game, worst in passing offense, and only sixth best in rushing offense despite Lawry continuing to lead the conference in rushing.

Folks, if we did not fix the passing game during the bye week, we will be in big-time trouble. Our strength is our running game, but against this Charlotte defense we are not going to be able to run if we cannot pass.

So what do we have? (1) The ODU passing game has been nothing short of horrendous. (2) The Monarchs had a bye week to work on the passing game. (3) The 49ers have the Conference’s leading defense. (4) We will need the passing game to open up the running game for Lawry and company. Conclusion: The passing game will be a point of focus against Charlotte. The question is: How many combined receptions will Lowe and Washington have against the 49ers?

This weeks over / under:

Number of combined pass receptions for Lowe and Washington: 6.5

I’m going with the over – but only because I am the eternal optimist. Preseason, I had this game penciled in as a win. I now believe that, one way or the other, it has the potential to be the defining game for the Monarchs this season. If the Monarchs are to win this one, the passing game must come alive, and I believe Lowe and Washington will have to lead the way.

Under.

Washington along with Pascal, will get plenty of looks

But.
I think that although Lowe is our fastest WR, he is either not getting the separation, or maybe because of his size, SB is just not seeing him, or he is not running the routes; or any combination of the above.
Lowe is, for all intents and purposes, an all purpose RB and may not be making the transition to WR as well as might be hoped. I don't know.

This is the defining moment if for no other reason, fans will definitely not relax with a loss to Charlotte at homecoming. Gotta win this one.
Not to jinx it, but right now the weather looks fantastic for Saturday. Maybe that will help. This is definitely a must win game.
I am taking the over on David Washington alone. I think it is time for him to assume a leadership role with the receivers and you lead by example.
So, Gilesfan, odu83alumni, monarx, and MonarchCAM – you have some interesting comments, but what do you think? Over or Under?
I'll go with the over; however, I agree that DW will have to come through. I'm still waiting for VL to provide the "spark" that we keep hearing about. I really want to be impressed with him, but he hasn't given me any reason to be. On the other hand, DW has been impressive in the past, but needs to break out this year.
I'm going with the over as well.

Well considering we try to run the ball when we can't pass and that Charlotte is suppose to be good against the pass and there will be no change at quarterback this week I would have to say under even though I would love to see Washington or Lowe break out.

I say under. We will run the ball better than we have the last 3 weeks and spread the throws around to multiple WRs. I think Duhart and Pascal get going this week.
It was under, as the total was three.

Washington had 1 and Lowe had 2.

Definitely a turn of events that I did not anticipate, but I loved it!
