How can this be the same defensive unit as we had last year? I know there have been changes, but how does a defense get this good that fast? Norrills is back, Moore is back, probably a lot of other guys are back that were hurt and we added some more talent - but we also lost some decent players as well. The DB's are stride for stride with the receivers and had a shot at intercepting nearly every pass thrown. The defensive "genius" that I thought should have been fired last year - suddenly looks like a genius.

When you think about the success with the recruiting classes we have had - it shows up primarily in depth. We are deep at every position. And I mean with guys that could start or fill in without a drop off in talent. The offense with Julian and Remy went down and probably should have also had a touchdown except for the killer penalty at the 4 or 5 yard line.

I'm just amazed at how good this defense looks. Offense will be deadly once they get Hunt back up to speed. It may be me, but he looks heavier and slower than last year - and was gassed after carrying the ball 4 straight times. Hopefully he gets fully healthy and gets into game shape quickly.
Agree on all points.

I noticed the DBs were on point almost every play. They were watching the receiver's eyes to know when to turn around to play then ball.

This is like watching another team. Amazing.

What is even more impressive is that the team can be even better than they are now, there are a lot of points being left out on the field.

I really believe that this is one of the top 10 defenses in the country.
Also agree on Hunt, he looks like he is out of shape. Hopefully he heals up quick and can put the necessary work in to get back to where he was last year.
I think it is depth, and it is also because it is the 2nd year under the current defensive coordinator. Campbell has always loved this style of defense, but he has never had the depth or the right person to run it. This may be Toledo's best defensive line that I have ever seen at Toledo. It is easily the best line since the Pinkel era. Defensive tackles during the Stutz era were mostly space fillers. These guys are big, strong, and capable of getting into the backfield. They are complemented by a solid corp of linebackers and a deep secondary. Whitaker is really coming on, and Milligan makes big plays every week. I've seen countless UT teams where you prayed that the defense would catch up, but I never thought I would live to see a UT team, where the defense allows enough opportunities for the offense to be effective. I think that is awesome.

He sure didn't during the summer. He was limited to running in a pool for most of the last three weeks and I thought he looked a little heavy and slow but he got better as the game progressed. Could have easily picked up a hundred with a couple more carries.
The OL is getting better every game. They over matched a good KSU defensive front.

Also the Rockets have the deepest and best running corps in the MAC and maybe in the top the in the nation
In addition, I was thinking while watching the game today that our kick coverage has been solid so far this season as well. Keep winning! Go Rockets!
