who is the most famous person you have ever encountered (not at a concert or ball game, etc.)?
Went to L.A. Once for a wedding and it was he weekend of one of the awards shows. Apparently people will stake out the after parties and wait for celebs across the street. Shook Ben Stillers hand and got Jon Voights autograph. It was pretty cool. Saw another celebrity leaving some restaurant but now I can't remember who it was.
Used to see movie stars in Austin all the time. Ran into Dustin Hoffman on 6th Street once, Bill Murray at Shang-ri-la on east 6th, Matthew McCoughnhay at Cuba Libre on Colorado in the Warehouse District. Also used to see Sandra Bullock at her restaurant, Bess' Bistro, at 6th and San Antonio quite a bit.

Bunch of my friends have multiple stories about Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and the Wilson Brothers but I never saw them.

Jefferson Starship on their hotel elevator, probably. We followed them after a concert and climbed onto the roof to spy on them at the pool. Grace had gained a few pounds at that point.

I used to go play racquetball in his back yard. It is part of the tour now. Building directly behind the mansion with gold records and such.

I played a lot of racquetball back then. Did you ever play at the old Memphis Athletic Club?

Sure. I played everywhere. Don Kessenger's, P.E. Complex and the Fieldhouse at Memphis St, the two goofy courts that were at 2nd Pres, that other club on Mt. Moriah (can't remember the name), Wimbleton, Chickasaw CC. Should have played for Larry Liles but lost confidence when Andy Roberts whipped me. Oh, William B. Tanner's court too.

So I played at MAC all the time, my dad did too. Always wore a red jumpsuit (him, not me). The women's racquetball coach encouraged me to try out for the Tigers but I was too lazy to practice that much, and probably not quick enough to compete at that level. I did win the intramural championship at UTK, though.
I don't bother famous folks when I see them, but I've ran across the following people:

Woody Harrelson at the old Union Jacks on Union.
Christopher Walken and David Spade at the Ritz Carlton in NOLA.
Keith Urban in the Nashville airport.
Christian Laetner in the JAX airport.
Mick Cronin and Nick Lachey in the Cincy airport.
Nicholas Cage at some bar in the French Quarter.
Rollie Massimino, Jake LaMotta, and Rick Pitino at the old Memphis Marriott on American Way.
Kid Rock in Platinum Plus.
Hulk Hogan at the Roosevelt Hotel in Nola.

There are probably a few more that I don't recall.
I smoked dope with Billy Gibbons at an apartment in Midtown in 1971. He's a funny guy. Of course, it was pretty good hash so everybody was funny.
I also know a number of porn actresses from the 60's, but their names are probably not well known to most folks.

we talked about that didn't we?
My Dad was in radio and TV and I got to meet a lot of "stars" as a kid like the guys who were on The Man From UNCLE, and most of the character actors who were on almost every TV show as a guest star in the 60s 70s as they made the rounds promoting new TV shows or movies.

I worked at The Coliseum and then The Pyramid and was within 10 feet of everyone from Abba to ZZ Top. Almost every professional wrestler who came thru town. And the occasional encounter around Memphis with famous musicians. Sat right next to Sam Phillips at Owen Brennan's one Sunday brunch. I wasn't in his party but our table was right next to his and he just brought us into his conversation which was long and entertaining.

But my two prize meetings were Elvis and Ali. I can't describe the energy these two had around them. The hair stood out on my neck and the feeling would equate to being in shock. Like you can't even find words to speak, even if you had the chance.

The Elvis meeting was both embarrassing and shocking. A friend of mine knew the pilot of the Lisa Marie. We were invited out for a brief tour of the plane, real hush hush. Guess who shows up? Yep, we GTF off the plane, but Elvis was really nice. It's a cliché, but he really did look like a million bucks. Photos didn't do him justice.

I saw Ali at an airport in Chicago around 1978. I got the same vibe from him that I got from Elvis. There was a buzz and crowd around him that was instant and just that fast he was gone.

Since we moved to Dallas we have seen Don Henley, Owen Wilson, DeMarcus Ware, and a slew of PGA guys who live in the DFW area.

Sure, but I have trouble remembering faces.
I met Jesus one night on windowpane.
Dang. I only got a quick glimpse on clear light.

Let's see.... back to the OP. Stevan Seagal came in with his Tibetan female entourage and possible lil boy successor to the Dalai Llama. His credit card name was a famous now dead blues musician whose name had a wild canine in it, so I asked him wtf that was about. LOL. He said he has to change names quite often because people steal his cc.
