Bystander Opens Fire On Suspected Home Depot Shoplifters

Quote:A bystander outside a Home Depot in Auburn Hills, Michigan, opened fire on a man suspected of shoplifting from the store on Tuesday as he attempted to flee the scene in an SUV driven by another man.

Police told The Detroit News that the bystander, a woman with a license to carry a concealed pistol, shot at the getaway car's tires after witnessing a loss prevention officer attempt to stop the suspect and fail.

It's unclear how many shots the woman, who is in her 40s, fired from her 9 mm handgun, though police believe she may have punctured one of the vehicle's tires. Authorities are still on the lookout for the car.

Damn, she apparently got the tire and they STILL got away.

He added that a gun is “truly a tool of last resort.”

“In that situation personally, there’s no way I would be shooting my gun,” said another instructor, Dawn Martin, with the Kalamazoo-based Viper Security Enforcement Inc.

CPL holders who misuse their guns could face a wide range of charges — among them felony firearm, reckless use of a firearm and felonious assault.

Hankins, the owner of Detroit Arms, said of the shooting, “None of it makes sense. Even if it were law enforcement, they wouldn’t do that.”

She added, speaking of CPL holders: “You are not a police officer. You are not a person out there protecting the public at large.”

Why did he have access to a gun? It's against Northern Arizona University regulations to possess a firearm on school property.

It's also against NAU regulations to discharge a firearm on campus

*You can not be a willing participant in the altercation.
*You must be in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm.

The above is why you so rarely hear about CCP holders getting into legal trouble. Remember, a self-defense shooting is the second worst possible outcome. The worst possible outcome is the intended victim dying.

Agreed...it's not the CCP folks I'm most concerned about...they at least get some training. I just don't want everyone packing heat. It's not going to end well.
