I'll be there with FIST's son, my nephew.

04-cheers
I'll be there. I won't be able to stay in Oxford after the game. I'll have to hurry back to Jackson to cover some h.s. basketball.

Anyway, I hope I don't go up there to see us lose.

Seriously, their D-line and linebackers has me worried. They are also pretty durn good against the pass. I don't really know what they do offensively, but they have a scrambling QB, or at least they did in the past.
As it stands now, I'll be there. Hotty Toddy y'all!

WR
I will be there, as always. Hotty Dayum Toddy!

Don't let our DL worry you too much. We've got a couple of decent DE's in George Gause & Moe Thompson, but we lack umph with our NG & DT. Because of this we don't get much of a pash rush up the middle, & we're sometimes vulnerable to draw type plays or off tackle plays up the gut.

As for LB, they've been plagued by injuries all season & have never lived up to potential.

Our DB's are decent, but with no pass rush it makes it tough on them.
Sure wish I could. I planned to move to Horn Lake Sat., but now have a funeral here in Ark. Sat at 2pm. It was a close family friend, like a grandmother to us, whose daughter we lost only 2 weeks ago. I sure hope I can get things settled down and get to LSU as planned. Heck, I thought I was finally going to get to attend 3-4 games for a change! Next year, though. 04-cheers

Thanks for the update there dude! Sure you ain't poor-mouthing us?

I'm a sports writer covering h.s. football (and anything else those durn h.s. kids play) and noticed that good teams' coaches are always poor mouthing you. Case in point, I talked to the West Jones (9-0) coach just before they played top-ranked Wayne County last week and he said, "well we can't run, can't throw, can't block anybody and sometimes I think my team is just out in la-la land."
Coaches always say this kind of stuff and then they add, "but I tell you what, we're gonna show up on Friday night, give it all we got and we're gonna leave it all out on the field!"
Makes me wonder what the "it" is that they plan to leave on the field. Oh heck, maybe it's just one of those football-isms like the 'when the going gets tough....'

In any event, West Jones upset Wayne Co. last week. They had 325 total yards, about 212 coming in the air, so his QB can throw! His o-line did a good job blocking too!
Hey, since you're on the central MS beat, how's Kosciusko doing lately? I cursed them back in 1998 so I just wanted to make sure I had the mojo still working on the Whippets.

No, not at all. We switched from a 3 to a 4 man front last spring, & we were already thin on the DL. During the course of the season we lost one of our better interior linemen in Preston Thorne to a serious injury. Knee I think.

Anyway, we were forced to move a DE over to help out (he actually plays both), & we've had to rely on a couple of transfers too. In a nutshell, we just don't have quality depth there, & it has caught up with us.

Gause & Thompson are fine on the outsides @ DE, but a good QB like Manning can usually avoid them by stepping into the pocket due to lack of pressure up front. Hence we're near the bottom of the league in QB sacks this year. We don't blitz very well either.

To get a better idea of our defensive struggles, just look at our performance in the 4th quarter vs UK as well as what both LSU & Vandy did.

Offensively we run first. We've got a pretty good OL that has had to battle some injuries the last couple of games, but we seem to be working through that now. We have 3 good RB's in Summers, Turman, & Boyd. QB Pinkins is a threat to run as well.

Our passing game is near the bottom of the league, but our QB play has been improving since our debacle in Athens in game 3. IMO our biggest problem there has been dropped passes. I'm not sure what the exact number is, but it must be pushing 30. The receivers as well as the QB are to blame for this.

Frankly, I don't think our strength (running) matches up well with your weakness (pass defense), but you never know. If we can hit a couple of good gains early on through the air then it may force the Rebs to respect that.

In short, I look for the Rebs to do what every other team we've played does. Put 8 in the box, put a spy on Summers, & dare us to beat them with the pass. IMO we've got 3 WR's in Williamson, Thomas, & Newton that can burn you IF they can hold on to the ball or we can get them the ball. Our TE (Turner) has been inconsistant as a receiver.

I don't think we can get into a shootout w/ you guys so I'm hoping our defense can find a away to pressure Manning & force him into a sub par day.

The Whippets are leading their region at 5-1 (Region 4-4A) and 7-2 overall. They lost to Louisville and Ackerman (out of 2A). The Louisville game was a heartbreaker, 26-20.
On Friday they play out-of-region Charleston (3A, I think) and very well could lose because Charleston is good.
Otherwise, they'll probably go a round or two in the playoffs. I saw them personally against Ridgeland (who sucks btw) and they shut down RHS's star running back, Keith Whitfield. They had RHS's QB running backwards the whole game. The Whippets also had a good running game, Herron and Levy especially. So, the ky-bash you put on them ain't working too well.

Louisville is where the excitment is at. Their coach, Gant, formerly of 1A power Weir, was recently fired for swearing at his players. Gant tells a different story, however. He claims he took down some commemorative photos of former players who are now doing time for drugs. Acc. to Louisville's principal and superintendent, the photo side of the story is just another red-herring cooked up by the evil, liberal media.

I think you know the answer to that, DW! 03-wink Hope your nephew has a good time. Is this the same young man you took to a game last season? Memphis State, I think it was, the sun-burner????
As most of you know I moved 2 states over to the right, but I've made it home for every game and won't miss this one either.

Reb14, if you're going to the Auburn game next weekend, let me know and we can try and hook up for a beer(or soda, whichever you prefer) at Buffalo's Bar beforehand. 04-cheers
I'm not sure yet, but I do plan to attend if at all possible. I'll let you know if I can. I should be there.

One and the same. I'll try to bring him by after the game so he can meet you and some of the gang. I'm not under a tight schedule this year. His maternal grandparents are spending the weekend in Robinsonville.
I should be there barring either more family business or the slim chance I have something better to do.
I'll answer your question by asking this, "Are we having a game in Oxford Saturday?"

Unless I die before Saturday, I'll be there!

Darn it! I've got to give that ill-working mojo a once over! I thought a quincunx at Kosy High was supposed to last at least a decade.

Who's coaching Kosy these days?
John Perry, and he's a pretty good guy. He's smart and that's rare among coaches. He uses words like "ensue" and "viable" that are unheard of in the coach's vocabulary. He also refrains from using coach-isms like
1. When the going gets tough...
2. We're gonna give it all we got and leave it all out of the field.
3. We've got to compete....
4. They play a very physical game....are very physical up front.
--well I hope they are physical instead of mystical, or gaseous or anything else for that matter....
5. In this conference, league, division, region, any team can beat any other team on any given night....
6. ___________ enter your coach-ism here.

Looks like you're going to have go back down there to Kosciusko, the town that time forgot, and put another mojo on the Mayor and the Fat Broad in the blue coat who's job it is to f**k the Mayor.
