Is he the Pastner of football? Can recruit but not coach? My USF-SMU buddy is hating life right now
I'm telling you he just about has it going. I know it's not showing in the w column but he just need a better offenseive scheme. Next season will be their year.

Two big problems he has in my book.
#1 he has no QB that can pass eligible at this time.
#2 play calling is abysmal and he chooses to be the OC

I think he needs at worst go 2-1 in those three games, if not he is toast.

The next coach will have a shot at having a talented defensive team with a better QB so they could come out looking pretty after what the team has done past 4 years

I agree. I just don't think he will get that chance unless he goes 6-6 this year. The fan base and donors are DONE with him as can be seen by season ticket sales and attendance. He either wins with what he has now or next coach will inherit a nice job.

That seems like a fair assessment. During the game, I was sweating the win, but after sleeping on it, it really wasn't as close as it seemed. After spotting you a 10-point lead, which seems to be our habit (and maybe due to letdown on our part and bye week on yours), we pretty much dominated the last 3 quarters, scoring 24 unanswered points, before giving up that late miracle catch TD.

But you guys are close to being pretty good. You have recruited better than anybody in the AAC the past 3 years, and with a couple more breaks (the missed fumble recovery and the long open pass), you would have been right there, last night. But you didn't. Really good teams figure out how to make those plays.

I wish you luck. It is somewhat similar to Pastner. Good recruiter, not great coach. Close enough to tease, but maybe not good enough to keep, long term.
Triple, thanks for the comments you guys have a good team and hope you guys continue winning this year.
The problem was that after we took that 10-0 lead, Memphis adjusted and brought the defense in to stop running game. The defenders were 5 or more yds off the WRs on most plays yet we kept calling running plays. It was stupid conservative play calling that wasn't going to hold up vs a potent offense like Memphis.

When Memphis started stopping runs that was the time to hit them with quick passes to force defense to back up instead we kept running on first and second and then trying to pass sometimes on third. Way too conservative

Congratulations on playing a tough, hard-fought game. I was nervous right until the late onsides kick went out of bounds. Plenty of season left - hope the Bulls go bowling.
At least give Taggart until next year.

I agree, although there is no way to tell if it would have made a difference, since Taggart didn't try it.

Funny, our fans were complaining about the same thing, that we played the game way too conservatively, and didn't open up our offense. On a number of 3rd and longs, we just ran it, even at midfield. We essentially played not to lose.

Of course, your D had something to do with it, too. Definitely the best we have faced, to date. We'll see more, with Ole Miss and Temple, especially.

This is what I saw. If he has problems throwing the ball, why not roll him out and give him the run pass option.

Good assessment. I thought Taggert was a great hire. He had a track record of success at the FBS level and he has recruited very well. Hard to figure how a previously successful coach would falter when he has better talent than most of his peers---but that's exactly what is happening at USF.

If I were USF, I'd look at Rod Carey at NIU. Very successful coach who would do a much better job of utilizing the bounty of talent USF already is stocked with.
Who ever inherits that job as next HC, will step into a very nice situation. USF has talent galore.

OK
Cuban, is that speculation or inside info?
It's not speculation. Everyone associated with USF knows that Taggart must find a way to get it done now. He absolutely must go 2-1 over next 3 to have any chance at all. 0-3, he's fired IMMEDIATELY. 1-2 they may let him finish out year before making decision, but would not be surprised to see him let go if USF offense continues to look inept against "weaker" opponents (no offense to Syracuse, UConn, and SMU, but they aren't as good as FSU and Memphis).

obvious to anyone familiar with the situation....i think he can survive losing to syracuse but he has to win both smu and uconn to have a fightng chance
I see Syracuse as a must win. Program can't stomach going 1-4. He might be able to survive a road loss to UConn. Absolutely must defeat SMU at home.
