While Dickie V strongly defended Jim Boeheim, following NCAA violations that dated back years....or how he has defended all UNC Coaches, past and present, even with their now multiple decade academic fraud scandal, now Dickie V is saying Larry Brown, after having NCAA sanctions immediately follow his previous exists at Kansas and UCLA...now, after major violations at SMU....Dickie V is saying "enough is enough" and Brown should not be allowed to coach again in college hoops.

Vitale: It's time for Larry Brown to be banned from college coaching

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...basketball

Bottom line...SMU could appeal some/most of these penalties and the NCAA may not make a decision on them till after this season is over...so Brown could coach all season long (no game suspensions), SMU could be eligible for conf and NCAA tourn...and if penalties are handed down past April...Brown could just retire (from SMU...might coach somewhere else, college or pro).
I'm not a Larry Brown fan, and don't care to defend him, but why are these media guys getting all indignant about this particular case? I didn't hear Vitale and Forde and the others get indignant about Calipari having two Final 4s vacated. Vitale defended him, saying poor John didn't know about either one. Bullcrap.

Hell, Forde wants to kick SMU out of the NCAA.

Yet I heard nobody get indignant about UNC's massive academic cheating, or the unbelievable stuff that happened at Penn State.

Do they honestly think Brown cheats, and these other guys don't? How hypocritical can you get?
Agree TripleA.

I am not trying to defend Brown at all, but acting like he needs to be banned is ridiculous unless you're going to say the same thing about guys like Cal.
See - I agree with Dick on this one.

It's just that I disagree with him on all the other ones. Screw 'em all. People can make mistakes, take your punishment and move on. But when you do it systematically as a means of getting ahead you're saying "the punishment is worth it, I gain more from the crime that it costs me - so I'm going to just keep right on doing it."

Odds of accidentally being at the helm of three programs with major violations? This guy has been around for a long time, but really only in the college game for ~12 years, about half of those proven to be while cheating.

John Calipari has never been found to have been involved in any NCAA infractions. Dude is squeaky clean. In fact, after the hammer cam down on Memphis, Calipari requested and received a letter from the NCAA stating such. And in case there was any remaining confusion -- Calipari publically stated re the NCAA investigation 'This is about Memphis not me.' Pure class.

Boeheim coaches in the ACC, Brown in the AAC.
you can tell the smu mod isnt active..half of these threads are legit threads but the other half are just smack threads that are being pilled on..if it was a different teams theyd be in the smack thread a long time ago
So Dukie V has no problems hugging all up on the nuts of some of the biggest cheaters around (John Calipari, Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim); but he has a problem with Larry Brown?
the key to understanding is asking yourself what coaches are involved in the Dickie V Foundation and which are not?
No SMU mod

Excellent point.
What if... SMU does appeal and the national Championship game is SMU v UNC 03-2thumbsup

You should be the SMU mod then, Pony94
I agree with the banning. Since he won't be banned, SMU should fire him if they want to be taken seriously (if that's possible). This is the 3rd scandal he's gone through. How many chances does a coach get?

Those in the media obviously have favorites.

I can still hear Vitale's cries as to why it was so unfair for the NCAA to penalize Boeheim.

Instead of analyzing a situation, they just defend friends.

Also, it was noted that Vitale was not going to do a SMU Game this season (unlike the multiple games he does with some teams) so Vitale going off on Brown is almost worthless...as he will never confront him this season.

Sad to think that would matter...but it just might.
